Did the Faraday Unipact bells get replaced by the 4017 bell used by Simplex and Auth?

Hello, does anyone know the origin of the Simplex 4017 bells?

I know Simplex used Faraday bells, so i was wondering if Faraday Unipact bells were replaced by the 4017 in the 1960’s under a different name?

Im aware Auth Electric Specialty Co. also used a version with their name on it.

If anyone has thoughts on this, I’d enjoy hearing them

I believe the Auth Electric company of NYC is the OEM of the Simplex STR bells. I don’t think simplex started rebranding Faraday signaling devices until 1966.

Hello, that is interesting, i know i seen an Auth 1732 bell on ebay that bears an uncanny resemblance to Simplex’s 4017 bell series.

I wonder if there are any documentation like brochures, catalog pages, etc?

The bell I am getting from eBay is a Simplex 4017.62 with a screw terminal block on the mounting plate. It has 120 V. A. D marked on the mechanism.

The ID label says "4017.62 120V, 60 cycle.

This is solely a guess, but i think the “D” refers to a direct connection to power via the terminal board.

No, it’s supposed to be 115 VAC (same voltage as a standard residential electrical outlet).

Hello, i have an tracking update on the Simplex 4017.62 bell i purchased off eBay.

Due to issues the shipper had, it was delayed in shipping out. I should have it between Thursday and Saturday of this week via Priority mail.

Hello, you have a pretty good knowledge of Auth bells… Do you have any literature that might tell me more about my Simplex 4017.62 bell they made?

I’ve been trying to find literature on their version of that bell without much luck… I did find on ebay a picture of an Auth 1742 24 volt 6inch bell that is a lookalike of the 4017.62.

One thing i like about it is the “stepped mountings for 6” and 10" versions", its a innovative design.

The other thing i wondered about is the truss head machine screw for the gong, i wonder what size it is, do you know by chance?

I thought it could be a 7-32 size, but i dont really know for sure.

I made a error on the Auth bell that looks like a Simplex 4017.62 bell I’ve been asking about.

It is a 1742 Series in 24 volt AC
