I was at a hotel in New Jersey on my trip to NYC and I notices these white things that were by the fire alarms. There were a few by themselves, but I don’t know what they are.
In doing a reverse image search to find out what it is, it looks like it might be a similar product to the Footmarks Smart Connect Beacon; an asset tracking system often used for retail. That didn’t seem to make too much sense, so then I came across this Reddit thread where the top comment described it as a beacon likely used to track employee access to rooms and verify maintenance schedules are met. The OP even mentioned he saw it in a hotel, too.
So, it probably has nothing to do with the fire alarm system, and is probably just there to track nearby maintenance or controlled access rooms.
