Duct Smoke Detector Testing Per NFPA Standard

I would like to hear how duct smoke detectors are tested by the many professionals in this Forum. People still spec remote test switches, which is not mentioned in any standard, legal papers, or code that I can find. The remote test switches serve no purpose with regards to how a duct smoke detector operates. So how do you perform your duct smoke testing?

Nobody tests duct smoke detectors in this forum? Does anyone know what the “protected area” is for a duct smoke detcctor? We, as professionals in our industry, that understand the importance of proper testing and maintinance should be pushing proper inspections. So I ask again, How does everyone test duct smoke detectors?

We have one technician but he’s not around right now.

Please be patient…
