It shows a new Edward’s page named the Edge Series. This might be a IO replacement in the future. Making this topic so if we know more information then theres a page to post it. Like the LED L-Series thread
Hmm…I only hope it’s made with the exact same finesse & innovation (among other things) that Edwards has almost always done with their other products (& thus is as good as all their previous products). No surprise though that the comments section is full of people badmouthing/bashing Edwards all because of faults with Edwards systems that were likely caused by techs or installers rather than the manufacturer: people, think &/or investigate on your own before you simply follow the crowd, okay? Jeez…
How do you suppose the OP on the Reddit page learned about the Edge in the first place? (unless they’re an Edwards employee, though if that’s the case they’re likely breaking company policy by unveiling a product before it’s officially revealed (even if said product will likely take forever to be actually officially/fully revealed after rumors or teasers start, like seemingly most new life safety products these days)
One Reddit commenter says that it might also replace the EST3X (which I guess just makes sense now that the normal EST3 is discontinued).
Oh, didn’t see that. Why do you suppose they seemingly leaked an upcoming Edwards product & also-seemingly didn’t care about their job by doing so? (since that can likely get you fired for obvious reasons)
im guessing its just something that got talked about off the record or during a technical or marketing meeting with the manufacturer. Maybe a conference. NFPA conference was not long ago. Not a big deal, thats just how the world works. Plenty of stuff Ive heard from Siemens thats not published in press releases, but its not really restricted.
I’ve heard about this already since last year or two… I don’t remember. We had Kidde reps come to our office the one time, and were saying there was a brand new panel coming out to replace both the VS and VM series.
Oh, really? It’ll be replacing the Vigilant-era VS & VM FACPs too? Huh…(makes sense I guess though: don’t really need several different models that all do the same thing)
Yes, that is the plan. Technically in Canada they already discontinued the VM, we can only get so much stock on it. The VS is very limited to the VM and are both pretty different. The VS can’t do voice, can’t do more than 32 zones, but also has its pros like easier configuration with the program, like correlations, and you can upload the program from the panel to your computer. You could also program it completely from the front faceplate, although I wouldn’t recommend it.
The VM is far more complicated to program, and it’s very customizable. Correlations can be a nightmare, you have to even program each LED to go off for a certain thing, IE trouble, fire, supervisory. It can only be programmed VIA laptop, and you need a certified key like Mircom to use it. You can’t get the program from the panel, so only the installer can make changes to program, or in one case we did, reprogram the entire panel with your own written program, as the installer was out of business, but that takes a hell of a long time to do. Pros is it does voice, it can be networked, can have as many zones as you want, and more proprietary.
Man, all sounds like a real mess for sure: glad that Edwards will be replacing both of them with a hopefully much easier to use FACP (speaking of which what’s the story on the Edge since it’s been a few months since its development has been known, do you know?).
