In most newer buildings with EST they have genesis alarms but does EST still sell and install Integrity products? They look much better than Genesis and with Genesis you can’t even tell a strobe from a horn/strobe because they all look the same.
The Genesis series has been EST’s flagship line of signals for the past 15 years or so. However, the Integrity series is still available and tends to only be used for weatherproof applications, general signaling, and direct replacements.
That’s what I’ve seen. My workplace uses the gray 120-VAC general signaling version of the Integrity as a refrigerator leak alarm. They’re pretty loud and obnoxious, and at times sound even worse than the building fire alarm! (SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes on Code-3)
I remember when I first heard one going off, the sound reminded me of the older Edwards 892-series electronic horn/strobes from the 80s and early 90s.
I also remember with the elementary schools they built in Brockton back in 2008, while inside they had Genesis speaker/strobes (EST-3 voice-evac systems), outside they had Integrity speaker/strobes.
Not necessarily. If you look at the grille hard enough at just the right angle, you will see the shiny part of the piezo horn behind the grille (only if it’s a horn/strobe or chime/strobe). The remote strobe is almost identical to the horn/strobe or chime/strobe, except there is no piezo horn behind the grille.
Case in point, at my high school, in one of the hallways, there was one EST Genesis horn/strobe signal (all the other alarms in that hallway were U-MMT’s), and at first glance, I thought it was just a remote strobe since I never saw the grille. I didn’t realize that it was actually a horn/strobe until one day in my junior year when they were testing the FA system when I was in a classroom located in that hallway (near the Genesis horn/strobe of course).
I believe the EST Genesis series alarms were first released in 2003, which was only about 12 years ago at the time of posting this. Case in point, the very first EST Genesis I saw was back within that same year.
