These are the exit signs that were used at my elementary school. The building opened in 1994, and I’ve seen them in other 90s and 2000s buildings in my area. It’s a bit of a rough photo, but they have a brushed aluminum/metal faceplate with a black plastic housing. They are AC only, as the building has an automatic emergency standby generator. One thing I distinctly remember about them is that they flash on and off (I would say near 120bpm) when the fire alarm goes off. They are still hooked into the modern 4007es system. Does anyone know how that works? I’d love to learn more about them. I think the flashing helps during an emergency, as it’s certainly attention getting, and makes you look at them. People (including myself) often ignore, or don’t notice exit signs that are solidly lit.
These newer exit signs have been used in every new building in my district since then:
They are basically the same thing, but without the direct view LEDs. They also don’t have any relation to the fire alarm system. Sorry for the low quality pictures, as I didn’t have any of my own, and I had to scrape the internet for some angles of them. These photos are from my middle school, my high school, and my school district’s office/pool/new storage warehouse/food pantry building on the campus of the old high school.
Can anyone who knows more about exit signs try to identify these? I don’t know much about them, but I’m interested in these.
Edit: I’m not sure how that picture at the top didn’t make it into the original post lol. I’ve added it now. Those are the ones from my elementary school.
