I have a AFP-200 system and I purchased a FAPT detector. When I went to enroll it it couldn’t identify the detector type. I manually selected it out of the 3 options it allowed (photo, ion, and heat). It accepted it and the program check was ok.
The lights on the detector flash as it is being polled.
However soon after the panel goes into normal mode from program mode, the detector sends a invalid reply error. I have tried a few thigs to recrify it but I am thinking it might just not be compatable??
I have looked at a couple data sheets for the fapt and one mentions the 200 and the other mentions the 300 and above.
Here is a datasheet for the FAPT-851 detector you are trying to use:
This detector operates on Onyx, CLIP, and FlashScan protocols but there are some differences in the setup for the devices, the AFP-200 should be able to handle both CLIP and FlashScan. A member on this board, Andrew or “NewAgeServer” is an expert on these addressable systems so it would be helpful if we could get some input from him.
I did see that page however it was published in 2004. I don’t believe the FAPT-851 was released until after the AFP-200 documents had been finalized and I have not been able to find a updated one, or anything that indicates they are compatible.
This datasheet on the FAPT states the following and notice how the AFP-200 is conveniently left out:
[quote]
The Notifier FAPT-851 Acclimate Plus™ detector is an intelligent,
addressable, multi-sensing, low-profile detector
designed for use with the Notifier AFP-300, AFP-400,
AFP1010, AM2020 (classic mode only); and with the ONYX®
Series NFS-640, NFS2-640, NFS-3030 and NFS2-3030 (classic
or FlashScan® modes) Fire Alarm Control Panels.

Just for curiosity before I explain below, who are you? Are you a collector/enthusiast, a technician, a building owner/manager, or something else?
The FAPT-851 “Acclimate” smoke detector is a smoke/heat detector designed to reduce false alarms by combining readings from the smoke sensor and the heat sensor. This detector is not compatible with the AFP-200.
Sorry, but you’re going to have to see if you can return this detector. If you cant… depending on how much you paid I may want to buy it from you as I have an AFP-400 and an NFS-320 that I can use it on.
I believe on the AFP-300 and AFP-400 panels it reads as SMOKE(COMBO). The reason why you are getting an Invalid Reply is because the panel is receiving data from the detector that it does not like. On the newer systems instead of saying Invalid Reply it tells you that the device type is not correct.
The AFP-200 was intended for small buildings only and was not made to be compatible with some of the more advanced types of sensors.
Here’s a few clarifications and corrections for everyone…
2004 datasheet date on the FAPT-851-- This detector replaced an older and larger detector called the FAPT-751 which came out in the very late 1990s.
“Onyx, CLIP, and FlashScan” – Onyx is a product line, the designation for the NFS series panels. It is not an SLC protocol.
Thanks for the info. I figured as much when things started going south that it wasn’t compatible.
I am just a enthusiast. Firefighter/Paramedic on the side I have always found a great interest in these systems. I had installed the system a few years ago and at the time used FSP FSI and FST detectors along with FMM, FDM, and FCM modules. The system is just a hobby system I purchased the FAPT “assuming” that they would work being that they had similar model prefixes as the other notifier detectors in this line of systems.
Hey an FYI that any devices whose models start with “N” are also not compatible, such as NP-100, NC-100R, etc. Those are intended for the FireWarden series only.
You appear to know what you’re talking about. I am dealing with a plan to install the FAPT-851 devices in an existing hotel here in Canada. Their intent is to catch people who smoke in their hotel rooms. The building is already sprinklered (so there are heats in the rooms) and there are hard-wired smoke alarms in the rooms (not detectors). They have submitted a plan for approval that will upgrade the panel to an addressable Notifier NFS2-3030 and install the FAPT-851 devices in the suites in addition to the existing detection devices. They claim they can dial up the smoke sensitivity (I thought these smart detectors automatically adjust their sensitivity) so that a smoke activation will produce a trouble on the panel and never an alarm. However they also claim the heat detector can produce an alarm condition to the panel.
I’m new, so please be patient. My question is: Can the device be programmed to only generate a trouble alarm on smoke sensor activation and fire alarm on heat sensor activation.
