Father and son: Wheelock S8-24MCCH and E90-24MCCH speaker strobes

Gotta say, the S8 and its rear cover would make a great place to put an ultra-high-output (110–118 dB at 10 feet) horn, especially with the Eluxa LED strobe.

Always find it interesting that Wheelock made two differently-sized versions of what’s basically the same device for whatever reason: about time someone did a direct side-by-side comparison of both (I probably would have but I have neither, heh).

Maybe, yeah.

The S8 is rated at 8 watts, while the E90 is only 2 watts (6 dB louder). I guess the S8 with the strobe was intended for areas that get loud, while the E90 was a “normal” device.

The ET90 was also 8 watts, but the S8 had higher fidelity because it was intended for combination background music systems.

Makes sense given the larger speaker size & the fact that some Walmarts use them to play music (among potentially other places).

Semi-old topic I know, but I just thought up this to say about those two devices (inspired by a similar joke I made recently, heh):
“Don’t talk to me or my son ever again”

And then they were never seen again.

Yeah, but at least us collectors are helping to make sure that plenty of examples (will) still exist.
