Fenced-in “Safe Evacuation Area” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

If you’ve stayed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House, you’ve probably noticed these fenced-in areas in the savannas. They’re nicknamed the “people pens”.

If you ever wondered what the “people pens” are for or what they’re actually called, here’s the answer:

Since the savannas are home to live animals, the Safe Evacuation Areas exist to ensure that guests remain separated from the animals during fire alarm activations.

Guests are to remain in the Safe Evacuation Area while the alarm is investigated.

If it is determined that the building cannot be re-entered, guests will be brought through the savannas and back to the parking lot.
