I feel out of touch with prices for used panels on eBay… I don’t know if its because I haven’t been actively looking since the early 2010s, or the terrible Canadian dollar but I kinda don’t know what my budget should be for basic panels.
Back in the day, I feel $200-$300 USD for used, but still functional basic conventional panels was normal. Now I’m seeing used MS-10UDs above $500, and usually without a can too!
Am I just out of touch, or is used equipment just getting more expensive? I’m not even going to touch new stuff, that’s all $1000+. I know eBay isn’t the greatest place to be looking nowadays, but Kijiji/Craiglist is pretty rare to find anything in Canada, although I did find my EST FS1004 there .
Yeah: economies these days are just plain nuts, & honestly so are Ebay sellers for that matter: thinking that we can pay the equivalent of the average Federal Reserve full of gold for one single device, when most enthusiasts don’t have that kind of budget!
Yeah: absolutely ridiculous.
Yeah, it is, sadly. When it comes to “new equipment” in my case: if it happens to be included with an assorted lot of stuff I’ll gladly accept it, but otherwise I don’t usually buy brand-new stuff.
To be honest it seems like it’s still the best place to look for & find life safety devices, even today: I for one know of no other place where you’ll find both rare devices & legit listings.
Funnily enough Craigslist is exactly where I found my first (& so far only for that matter!) fire alarm control panel, my SK-5208 (for a measily $50 no less! Try finding any decent panel anywhere for that little! (especially nowdays).
