I am running some new fire alarm wire In the basement and wanted to know what is the best way to support it properly. I have been using staples, should I continue doing that or should I use something else like zip ties with the screw loop at the end or another type of securing device. ???
Regular electrical staples are fine. Just don’t “drive them home” and smash the wires and you’ll be fine. For a little extra protection, you could buy the plastic dipped ones. If you want to keep things tight, run a zip tie through every 5th staple.
Another thing you can do is drive a staple parallel to how you are running the wire with NO wire under it. Drive it down leaving about a 1/8-1/4" gap. Then using a zip tie, attach the wire to the staple so the wire floats below the staple. This way if you ever changed things around it’s just as easy as cutting out the wire tie and you don’t have to pull staples.
Great thanks for the helpful tips.
Can fire alarm wire be run along side coaxial cable. I know it cant run along side high voltage cable. Would it cause any interface?
