Fire alarms at Omaha Nebraska Henry Doorly zoo

This place has some very interesting mixes of devices. Here are some of the pics I have taken of them. More may come in months to come. These are what I have so far:

Lied Jungle
System - some sort of Gamewell system.
Pulls - for the most part Gamewell sentry pulls, with the key lock instead of the screw.

In the entry area to the jungle part, there is a wheelock 7002T. Also in this area, there are what look to be SD-355s and a handful of 365s.
Most of the notification appliances in the jungle area are Gentex. There are a bunch of SHGs, but there are a few Commanders as well.

There is also a restaurant in the same building, that has a view out in to the jungle area. There aren’t many NAs in there, but the ones that are there seem to be an older wheelock device, idk the name of it, but they don’t have ADA strobes.

Also here is the building’s annunciator. Last time I saw it, it was displaying the date as being 1999. So evidently they don’t set the time on these panels or something.

Now, I don’t have very many pics of this system, but this system is in the Wild Kingdom Pavillion. The system is a Gamewell S3. The NAs are both Gentex Commanders and also a few 7002Ts. At least one of the pullstations is an older notifier pull, a BNG-1 if I’m not mistaken, I think this is a rarer variety since it has local alarm on it.

That could be an AES, EH, or MT-series horn/strobe.

facepalm…at least it’s a rare FCI system, which you really don’t see many of.

All older/1st-gen BNG-1s have “LOCAL FIRE ALARM” on them as far as I know.

Now to the aquarium. The system is a Notifier system of some sort. It is voice evac. The pulls are NBG12LXs. The NAs are SpectrAlert advance speaker strobes. There are a few FSP-851s floating around as well.

Next up is the Desert Dome. This system is an EST3 system. The pulls are most likely SIGA, and they are 278s. There is a mixture of generations of EST SIGA smokes and heats. There are also at least 2 panels in charge of controlling the fire suppression system inside the desert dome. In this building there is also a downstairs area, which I have more images of than the upstairs. The system has Gentex Strobes, and I don’t know what the speakers are, but they are separate from the strobes.

That EST3 cabinet with the three displays & key-operated pull stations in it is most unusual. I wonder what that’s used for.

Fire suppression. That is what one of the people who works with the panels at the zoo told me.

More pics

Next up we have the elevator building. This building is undergoing renovation, so this may have changed. But the system was an EST3 system with Integrities, SIGA smokes, and 270-SPO pulls.

The building that houses Hubbard Gorilla Valley was recently renovated, and in some areas is still being worked on. For some reason they stuck with edwards for this building instead of going to Notifier or another Honeywell Brand. The panel is an EST4 panel, with the new LED genesis speaker strobes. Pulls are 270-SPOs.

The system that used to be in this building was an EST3. Similarly to the Desert Dome, the NAs were Gentex commander strobes, and then there were separate speakers for the voice evac. Pulls were 270-SPOs, but idk if they were addressable or not. The new pulls are the SIGA version.

That is all I have right now I think. I will add more sometime soon (depends on whenever I go there again)

Oh! I forgot that I have this photo of an LCD-80 freaking out. The system is at the Butterfly and Insect building, the system is a Fire Lite system, it has voice evac, and the NAs are Spectralert Classic speaker strobes. I will get some more images of it next time if I have the chance.

Oh, huh.

You don’t see a ceiling-mount GX-90 every day!

Yet another instance of the LCD on a panel or annunciator going out…

How common is this issue?

Seemingly somewhat common considering weatherdan882002 has documented it happening on two different systems:

@TheCarson116 i think it’s happening here too.

I have some updates from my recent visit. They finalized the renovations in the Elevator building and the Orangutang building, as well as the other part of the gorilla building. Here is the results:

EST Genesis LED Speaker Strobe w/ ALERT Lettering, recently reopened section of the Gorilla valley building.

The Next 2 photos are at one of the exits to the GV building. There used to be a Gentex Commander 3 Outdoor rated alarm where the Genesis is now. And yes, there are pull stations on both walls next to the door.

This image is in the new Orangutang Forest building. The way they have mounted the genesis here makes it hard to see the lettering on it, since it is embedded into the faux brick wall. So I don’t know how this was overlooked. But maybe i am wrong here.

This is an image from the adjoined elevator building to the Orangutang Forest building, that has elevators and stairs that go up the hill. This building originally had an EST 3 system, and used EST Integrity NAs. The upstairs area still uses Integrities, and as you can see here, the lower area uses Genesis. However the lower level was changed much more than the upper area, so it makes sense. The current system is an EST4, and i am wondering if the GV building, the OF building, and the elevator building are all networked together. Outside, on the upper level, there is a fire hose connection, and they decided to put a Gentex Commander 3 right below it as the sprinkler alarm. IDK why they put it so low to the ground, but to me that seems like it would make it easier to tamper with the alarm. Or even accidentally damage it or something.

This is the upper level of the Elevator building. As you can see, they kept the existing NAs, and I am guessing those are the same pulls as well. They also kept the same smokes for the elevators (first gen EST SIGA smoke detectors). I don’t know if these are the integrities that have the synced strobe, I didn’t look.

I still have some more buildings to capture.
