Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

You definitely don’t see ESL detectors on Edwards systems that often given Edwards has always had their own to use instead (sure, both are technically one & the same nowdays thanks to several mergers, but still).

Interesting: most (if not all) of the systems with ADT BG-12s that I’ve seen have had Wheelock signals instead.

That’s definitely interesting. The only Culver’s I’ve ever seen with a fire alarm system is my local one. That has a Potter system with rebranded Gentex devices.

Funny it has notifier labelling along with it

#whatafirealarmfail, the best way to mount a classic!

It has a 5207, i could see it through the door crack, but i didnt want to be weird and take a photo.

Quincy Market - Boston, MA
Panel: Notifier NFS2-3030 (or NFS2-640 with NCA-2), located in the central atrium.

Pulls: NBG-12LX’s

Detectors: FSP-851’s

Signals: SpectrAlert Advance speaker/strobes and remote strobes, and some L-Series speaker/strobes.

This building had a Simplex system many years ago, and that was replaced with another Simplex system (still non-addressable), which was then replaced with a Mircom system (that kept the Simplex devices), before eventually the Notifier system was installed.

Funeral Home Near Me:
This building was opened in either late 2020 or early 2021.

Panel: Potter AFC-1000

Notification Appliances: Potter HS-24WR horn/strobes and S-24WR remote strobes

Pull Stations: Potter PAD100-PSSA single action addressable pull stations

Detectors: Many Potter PAD200-PD addressable smoke detectors, and a PAD100-CD addressable carbon monoxide detector above a gas fireplace.

I went back here this year, and this time I got to learn a little more about the system! I saw a glimpse of the panel setup when the Fire Command Center room was open (as part of repairing a broken-down elevator, as what often happens at these cons), and the main panel is actually a Simplex 4100U with InfoALARM display! It was likely installed in the late 2000s when they remodeled the guest rooms that were on the second floor into additional con space (with the 4906-9151 multi-candela TrueAlert speaker/strobes, 4099-9001 addressable pulls and 4098-9714 addressable TrueAlarm detectors).

And what’s more, they also still have the original Simplex 2120 system’s Status Command Center in use in some way! But they probably modded the internals to be more like a 4100-series auxiliary panel with newer electronics and such. Additionally, the 4100U itself is in what appears to be the original 2120 cabinet that also likely housed a Simplex 4100+ system in-between the 2120 and 4100U (since the restaurant/bar and swimming pool were renovated in the 1990s and had vertical 4903 speaker/strobes installed in place of the 2902 speaker/visuals there, along with the ADA rooms having remote 4904 strobes and an ADA suite on the top floor having a horizontal 4903 speaker/strobe). Note that the third panel there is beige like 2120s typically were but has a black cabinet door! That is most likely now used for terminal wiring.
Also, the fitness center room was renovated in the early-to-mid 2000s but the fire alarm devices there were clearly installed by a different service provider; there were Wheelock E70 speaker/strobes, conventional System Sensor detectors of some kind, and a hex-lock Fire-Lite BG-12 pull.

Hey, wiley209’s back! (Hahaha, puns)

Anyways, that’s pretty interesting! If any of this gets replaced, try and save some of this.

What a wild system. I want to see more alarms.

Found a quite-old Edwards system huh? Neat (I actually have one of those bells myself: in fact, it was the very first commercial device I ever obtained).

I did some real estate browsing…

Wow that’s an old system going by the devices. Great find! (& of course yet another one that should definitely be saved if possible)

You found that via real estate though? Does that seriously mean that that system is in a residential house!?

It was in an apartment building built in 1920.

maybe send those photos over to Glenn of Old School Fire Alarms and he might be able to identify them
