Fire Alarms in Buildings (2.0)

At my local bank, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any pull stations. However, there’s a Wheelock AS near the back of the bank and a Radionics (?) annunciator near the front.

At mine (TD Bank) there’s an MT-LSM above the entrance and http://www.dan.calvinet.com/Room_Smoke.JPG ESL smokes. On the side of the entrance, there’s a security keypad and a white BG-8.

One of the banks downtown has ESL branded RSG t-bars with Gentex horn/strobes and ESL smokes.

I also forgot to mention the Liberty Bank in my city initially had no fire alarm system (I think), but now it has a Simplex 4006 system with TrueAlert horn/strobes and 2099-9756 dual-action pulls, as well as at least one TrueAlarm smoke detector.

I was at the bank earlier today, and the thing that I though was an annunciator said HP on it, so…

Pet Food & More (Livonia, MI)

The alarms here are rather unique; they appear to be a mix of these red and white Amesco strobes and horn/strobes. You can see what I’m talking about here:http://www.pottersignal.com/Fire/pdf/8850032_SFH45153075.pdf (it looks just like the white alarm except that it’s not a speaker)

Wendy’s (Middlebelt Road, Livonia, MI)

The kitchen area of this restaurant has a Spectralert horn/strobe.

Kroger (Chesterfield Township, MI)

Alarms:

  1. Wall-mount Wheelock NS horn/strobes.

  2. White ceiling-mount Wheelock AS horn/strobes.

  3. White ceiling-mount Wheelock NH horn/strobes.

  4. Outside of a service tenant inside the store, is a silver 4" bell.

Panel:
What I believe may have been a Notifier panel in the same service tenant with the 4" bell.

Pulls:
Notifier BG-12LX pull stations; there is one near the back of the store with a Stopper II over it; it’s next to a fire door with a DETEX door alarm.

Kalahari (Perkins Township, OH)

Alarms:

  1. The majority of the alarms are white EST Genesis horn/strobes, mainly in the hallways outside of the hotel rooms.
  2. It’s possible, that there may have been white EST Integrity speaker/strobes in the lobby and general area.
  3. One red Integrity in the pool area, next to a door leading outside.

Detectors:
The hotel rooms have what might be EST smoke detectors that may possibly be interconnected with the rest of the system.

Panel:
One EST panel located in near the arcade or lobby area.

Pulls:
There are about 5 or 6 EST dual-action pull stations next to each other, next to the panel; they are likely used to set off the alarms for a specific floor. These were the only pull stations I could find here.

Northville Car Wash (Northville Township, MI)

Wheelock 34T-24 horns in one hallway and main wash area.

St. Simon & Jude Church & Hall (Westland, MI)

Alarms:

  1. The main church area has Spectralert Classic horn/strobes.
  2. Inside one of the church halls, is a 4" bell painted over white in a corner, possibly an Edwards.
  3. Outside, at the main entrance to the church, is a survivor of the church’s old system; it is a gray single projector horn, possibly an Edwards when I looked at the base.

Dearborn Heights City Hall (Dearborn Heights, MI)

Alarms:
National Time 411F horns (non-flush mount) behind gray/silver grilles.

Pulls:
Non-ADA National Time 641 pull stations.

Michaels (Livonia, MI)

  1. Bosch-branded ceiling and wall mounted Wheelock AS horn/strobes.
  2. Ceiling mounted Wheelock RSS(?) strobes.

Two Radionics annuciators; one near a fire door in the back and another in the front.

Detectors:
In front of the store, are about 8 of these “Gentex GX-90 looking” alarms with the words “Smoke” on the strobe lens. Any identification on what I am talking about would be appreciated.

Pulls:
Radionics t-bar pull stations.

The past couple of weeks I’ve spent Friday nights at the Elks Club here in town, as it’s pizza night there. They have a http://www.us.sbt.siemens.com/FIS/productdoc/catalogs/7906.pdf Siemens SXL conventional panel with http://www.us.sbt.siemens.com/FIS/productdoc/catalogs/6119.pdf DI-3 smoke detectors (heat detectors in the kitchen), http://www.us.sbt.siemens.com/FIS/productdoc/catalogs/6184.pdf MSM series pull stations and MTL horn/strobes with Wayback Machine single-gang remote strobes in the bathrooms.

Today, I went to a couple of schools to perform, with my schools drumming team. I didn’t get to take any pics, because I didn’t get enough time. These are all Elementary schools.

The first school we went to had an Edwards system. The front entrance had an EST annunciator, so i’m guessing the panel was an EST 2 or 3. The pull stations were obviously 270-SPOs, and the alarms were Edwards Integriety horns. The bell system here was on the PA system, and it looks like they may have had a real bell system before, but they probably took it out.

The second school, which i have taken pictures of previously, had a Mircom system. I don’t know the panel, But i’m guessing it’s a Mircom one because the FAs were Mircom 10" bells. The Pulls were 270-SPOs, so this school probably had an upgrade from an Edwards system. The school bells were 6" Adaptabels, the older version, and I heard them go off twice, which to me they weren’t that loud at all.

The last school also had an upgraded system, which the school had Edwards 10" single stroke adaptabels before. Now, It has Wheelock NSs. The pulls are 270-SPOs, and i’m not sure about the panel. The bell system had Edwards 6" adaptabels, and they were a little newer, and I heard them ring too, and it didn’t sound loud.

Livonia City Hall & Annex (Livonia, MI)

Alarms:

  1. National Time 411F flush-mount horns in the main building, which is several stories tall (about two on each floor).
  2. One National Time 541 horn (non flush-mount) in the Annex.

Detectors:

  1. Older style System Sensor 2400 series detectors in both buildings.
  2. One photoelectric detector near an elevator in the main building (unknown model).

Panels(?):
The main building had about two of these control panels located next to each other, which I assume were the panels (didn’t get close enough to see the manufacturer).

Pulls:
National Time 641 pull stations in both buildings.

Now, what is interesting about the 411F’s in the main building is that they are branded as “audible signals”, just like at the former William Tyndale College, whereas a typical 411F I see would be labeled as a “fire signal”. The main building was constructed in 1979, so I assume the 411F’s were made in between the mid-to-late 1960s and late 1970s, but the front tags were changed over time.

CVS/pharmacy (North Wayne Road, Westland, MI)

Alarms:
The only alarm I could find here was a Spectralert Classic horn/strobe in a stockroom.

Annuciators:

  1. One Notifier annuciator at the main entrance.
  2. A couple of Radionics annuciators in the main store.

Pulls:
One Notifier BG-8 next to the Notifier annuciator as I walked in.

The Home Depot (Livonia, MI)

Although its neighboring Northville Township counterpart has an alarm system, the only things I could find here were a couple of Bosch annuciators. I did look at a fire evacuation plan, though, and there are some pull stations scattered around, although I did not see any while I was here. The alarm likely sounds through the ceiling speakers (the ones that play music).

Kroger (5 Mile Road, Livonia, MI) {Revision}

  1. Most of the alarms here are white ceiling mounted Wheelock AS horn/strobes.
  2. White ceiling mounted Wheelock RSS strobes w/ horizontal “FIRE” lettering.
  3. One red RSS at a Customer Service desk.
  4. One red AS which I believe was near a bathroom/Chase bank area.

Pulls:
Gamewell Century “full moon” pull stations.

Matthael Botanical Gardens (Ann Arbor Township, MI)
