Some had the potter logo, seems like they had old stock, and didnt go to waste.
I have no idea why did this happen.
Ademco 529 Pull Station
Who decided that was a good idea
Exactly: really? That is not where you put a keypad if you want it to actually be usable! What the heck…
On another note, because of the keypad, there’s supposedly only two panels that system can have: a Silent Knight SK-5208 or a Gamewell Flex 410 (though the latter is just a rebrand of the former).
This happened with a pull station here. “It’s supposed to be at ADA height not NBA height.”
I think yes, but I have no way to confirm this. I do know of a few buildings that have ancient fire alarm systems with bells (and electromechanical horns in some cases). There’s at least one location near me that has Vibratone horns still standing, though the system has been superseded a long time ago. (if I recall, it’s also a rare system, a DEF Proxima C128)
That’s common in smaller buildings where a full blown hardwired system would be unnecessary. (NF-SSI standards also count fog horns as a valid fire alarm type in smaller buildings, just to make things a little more interesting, although this is rarely seen in practice).
It all boils down to what type of occupency building it is, actually, though battery-powered Type 4 panels are getting increasingly rarer these days.
I know a lot about many european countries, including france but not aswell as @Alexis_T . Most of europe has ‘similar’ principals of how systems function in america, besides france. If anyone has questions, please reply, I am happy to explain
Another one, I’ve… seen partially, located in the “Salles des fêtes” (reception venue hall) in my hometown.
Originally they had a presumed Nugelec system (I dimly remember seeing a Nugelec sounder by one of the entrances) some odd 15 years ago… never saw the panel whatsoever. I do remember the old call points were a mix of Nugelec S2000 and S3000 MCPs.
Now they have this:
- Call points: Chubb MCP2A (yes that’s a mouthful alright) conventional call point (w/ activation indicator LED and protection cover) the LED is dark red when not lit (on adressable Chubb MCPs the led is grey when not lit)
- Strobes: Fulleon Solista (inside the restrooms)
Now for the unconfirmed parts of the new system that I didn’t see (based on best guesses and speculation, where applicable)
- Sounders: None seen, although since this is a large venue with a speaker system, I suspect there is a voice EVAC system (locally known as a Système de Sonorisation de Sécurité) in place, probably a Rondson Sonovac or a Bouyer AZ-1253. I also suspect there are Chubb Sonos (Klaxon) sounders scattered around in the entrance corridors and side rooms, but to date I have not yet confirmed this.
- Smoke detectors: Largely unconfirmed but I can faintly recall seeing Chubb C-scan+ O detector up in the main venue area, though this time round I didn’t get to confirm this either. I suspect there might also be beam detectors given the size of the main room and duct detectors in the AHU/HVAC (another curious thing here, there is only ONE AHU for the whole venue’s main room! The side corridors have hot water radiators) system.
- Panel: Possibly a Chubb UTC Pack or a UTC Com given the size of the building, with a CMSI (Centralisateur de Mise en Sécurité Incendie) to shut down the HVAC system in the event of a fire.
Not much to go by here, unfortunately, I did see outside on the HVAC AHU that there is fireproof detection cables going to/from the AHU, hence my suspicion of the presence of one or more duct detectors in there.
It’s an all around bizarre building.
Silent Knight system at a Buffalo Wild Wings in San Antonio, TX.
Panel: unknown, possibly 5820XL
Annunciator: 5860 (Honeywell rebrand)
Pulls: unknown
NAs: System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance horn strobes and remote strobes. Interesting enough, theres a wall mount remote strobe mounted on the ceiling. There’s also an outdoor Advance too, maybe a waterflow indicator.
Smokes: unknown
I honestly find it pretty cool and interesting to see a wall mount Advance on the ceiling, as they are rated for it, but still look out of place. I’m not at all a fan of that series, but I do enjoy that part of them.
Some building in Creil, France, exact location unknown/forgotten.
Let me first preface this by saying that this is a location I’m not too sure about anymore, with my memory being what it is… I do not think the building and/or the system still exists anymore.
Panel: Unknown, I do not remember seeing any, it was probably in a staff-only area.
Sounders: At least one Nugelec SFC PAJ30150-A1 (possibly some NUG/PAJ 30150-00 were present) and two Aritech AI672/673 sounders
Smoke detectors: Unknown/Can’t remember
Manual call points: Unsure, but I recall seeing some older Nugelec call points mixed in with KAC KR-1 call points.
Regrettably, I do not have any other information about this, considering that the building is most likely gone or if it still stands, the system is possibly long gone.
Gymnase Municipal de la Salle d’Alençon, Chantilly, France
Another weird building from my region, it can be counted as two buildings, one room (the “Salle d’Alençon”) being merely a music classroom for the school behind the building (this location shares a yard with a school) and a gymnasium.
Panel: older Neutronic type 4, dual-zone panel, presumed model: T4-2B
This is where it gets funny, one zone is dedicated for a call point in the main corridor (which also is used for the Salle d’Alençon !) and the second zone is used for… the Gymnasium’s call points… yeah it’s… I don’t even have an explantation for this… They could’ve went with a Type 3 system with autonomous sounders but I guess that works too.
Sounders: This system has a few, listed below:
- Nugelec NUG30150-00 in the main corridors (I did find one in the corridor that leads to the locker rooms)
- Some Legrand horn/strobe sounder in the restroom, I suspect it is/was a Legrand 0405 85 or it’s URA equivalent… Having heard the sounder-only version, those are TERRIFYINGLY loud (supposed to be 90db, but in my experience… they feel a tad bit above this!)
Errata
I’m drawing a blank here but, from what I can faintly recall, I saw some Fulleon sounders of some kind there (Nugelec DSB3000) not counting the panel’s integrated sounder though. Definitely unusual to see this.
This, overall appears to be a mis-mash of various systems slapped together over the years… Also I think the fact that the installers straight up ran the wire to the Nugelec sounder in a junction box that has 240V wires going inside already kind of seems like a big no-no here but don’t quote me on that as I’m not too up to date on my country’s fire alarm installation standards…
About those older Nugelec sounders...
How do I know this is a NUG30150-00 (some very late examples were labeled “PAJ30150-00”, I have one such unit in my collection, dated 1999, making it one of the very last ones made) and not a PAJ30150-A1? Simple. The NUG30150-00 all have a small “CE” sticker underneath, something that the PAJ30150-A1 lacks. Also both the 30150-00 and the 30150-A1 have a shorter base with two large clips on the sides, whereas the DSB3000 has a deeper base with two small pin holes where you’d insert a special tool to unclip the sounder from the base.
Sound-wise, the A1 has a slower AFNOR sound, while the 30150-00 and the DSB3000 has a more normal tone.
Call points: Classic Neutronic call points, model 4710R1
I had pictures of that system but unfortunately they are all lost to time. That system also probably is long gone, I can’t say with certainity. They probably upgraded the panel to a Neutronic “Tesla-T4-2B” panel or “TT4-2B” which is their current type 4, two loop offering.
EDIT: I found some pictures of the sounders in that system!
The Seasons Lodge - Nashville, IN
Some kind of Silent Knight system but couldn’t get a pic of the annunciator because of people.
Nice! is this a new install? or a replacement?
Not 100% sure but I’d imagine a replacement since the building has been there forever
If its been there for a while, its possibly a replacement.
This rare 80s Honeywell-themed system inside the Brickyard Crossing golf pro shop that I’m at for the Indy 500 qualifying
Alarms: Honeywell-branded 7002T w/o fire lettering
Pulls: Honeywell (idk the model # of it)
I didn’t find the panel yet so I’ll probably search again later.
Another two of the 7002Ts
And a few smoke detectors
I still haven’t found the panel yet, however I did see a couple of keypads but I think those are for the security system
They did have fire lettering at one time, it just wore off with age: if you look closely you can still see where the letters once were.
Yeah I kinda forgot to mention that it turns out that it just wore over time when I found that third one. Oops
