My middle school had one of those Wheelock Telestrobes in the band hall, near the directors office. The director’s office was inside the main area where the class would be.
I know my middle school could have used that. They had a very similar setup with the location of the office and the phone, but the phone had no external ringer/strobe. There are four band directors that share that office, so one of the three that wasn’t teaching could usually answer it, but sometimes nobody would be in there to hear it ring, and the secretary would have to come talk to the teacher in person.
My high school’s band room actually has the phone in the room, but it’s also equally hard to hear.
They’re a bit expensive but still stocked by some suppliers (either still made or lingering NOS); they are a little heavy on REN though so they’re not the greatest in a VOIP world. (ATAs and MFVN gateways can be fairly limited on REN because they’re generating that ringing voltage onboard, instead of having a big central ringing generator like you’d find at an old-school CO.)
I took some (admittedly very low quality) photos of some of the devices in the main mall, and in Scheels when I was there the other day:
Other News and Updates:
Scheels is currently receiving a fairly large addition that will extend further into the mall, and will take up some vacant spaces. There are a few things that could happen with their fire alarm system:
- They call Johnson Controls to come and extend the existing 4010 system to the new areas
- The existing Simplex system is left unchanged, and the Siemens system from the main mall is extended into the new areas
- The existing Simplex system is fully replaced by an extension of the main mall’s system into Scheels
- The existing Simplex system is upgraded to a newer Simplex panel, or the whole system is replaced with a different brand, and that is also extended to the new areas
Honestly, any one of these options (or a combination of them) could happen. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
So someone decided to pull the fire alarm at my school, i got the tone and message which is nice, It has these speaker strobes.
As you may have heard before, my school uses a very similar system, and the same tone, but the default female message. Our fire alarm went off today as well, but it was only for testing, and it was for less than a minute.
Yeah, Desigo Modular? Or Desigo FC?
My school has a Cerberus PRO Modular system:
Yeah. Also unusual how it’s a basic non-illuminated sign paired with an illuminated exit sign (the latter looks pretty dim though).
Does it have the same code 3 pattern as the one i showed? Or is it just like the uninterrupted code 3?
It’s the same one as you showed, with the imperfection/skip in the loop. From what I’ve seen, it seems like the Modular systems have the skip, while the Compact systems don’t. I think it must be a difference in the way that the message is looped.
System at the YMCA in Cadillac, MI. I know it’s Gamewell branded but don’t know anything else about it.
According to Google, that panel is a Gamewell Identiflex IF-610, though the Wheelock E50s are an odd choice for such a system. Any clue when it was put in? (unless the E50s are more recent than the rest of the system said year would have to be 2005 or newer, since that’s when the E50-series was introduced)
That’s really cool! I’ve never seen a voice evac one of those. I’d really like to know what it sounds like.
Was it in alarm?
The Fargo, ND branch of Summit Fire Protection is also the Gamewell-FCI dealer in my area!
No idea when it was put in. Didn’t know it existed till today. Those E-50s are Gamewell branded however so I would assume they’re original.
I think? I know it was in a supervisory trouble (supv display lamp was lit) and the reset and signal silence lamps were lit
Also nice!! My local Summit in Traverse City, MI is an EST dealer
i just saw this, do you have discord?
Indeed I do. I posted it there earlier today.
