That’s interesting, but for the collector looking for these items, I’d stick with ebay or something. For hobby purposes these prices at Home Depot are over the top. You could find these pulls and even panels on ebay for a fraction of that price.
Not that its un-relable, you just have to know what and from whom are you buying something from. Remember, eBay money back guarantee (Had to use it once).
It’s about liability though, where were the lawsuits fall if it fails? eBay seller who claims it’s sold as-is? Or the manufacturer since you went through one of their distributors (home depot)?
Going to be on you if you got it from eBay.
But for hobby stuff, eBay is def. the way to go, and more than likely just as reliable. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable putting it in a building.
My whole point about ebay was centered around hobby purposes. The alarms offered by Home Depot are not rare, if someone wanted one for their collection or demonstation board, etc. they could easily get one in an auction and pay a whole lot less. If there isn’t one on ebay at the moment, give it a day, like I said, its nothing hard to find.
If you’re looking to use the equipment in an actual, fully operational system for life safety, of course, stay away from ebay. I see it all the time with contractors in both the alarm and sprinkler trades. They buy their stuff on the cheap, usually in large quantities to add to their inventory…really stupid… liability issues just waiting to happen.
