Fire Drills, Severe Weather Drills, Lockdowns, Evacuation Drills for the 2024-2025 School Year

“Run hide fight” is such a stupid procedure…

Eh, I mean it’s an okay procedure. I could never fight anyway.

We had a REAL lockdown today, sadly! During our Period 2 classes, my school received an urgent call regarding a shooting threat made over social media. The Main Office responded quickly, putting the entire school into lockdown. Our lockdown procedure is that an administrator announces “We are in lockdown” over the Public Address system, and we (the students and teachers) go out of sight, turn off the lights, and close the shades. This happened around 10:40 a.m. in my Latin Period 2 class. Once the announcement was made (it was almost the end of class,) I quickly realized that we were in lockdown for longer than a standard drill (a drill is 5 minutes- this was 8 minutes.) At 10:48, we had the “all clear” message, with the principal explaining the situation and calling all parents.Thankfully, the school’s Security team and the police department were monitoring the school afterward for any suspicious activity soon after.

Regarding fire drills, we are quite behind on those. Our last one was in November- and we are due for one this Spring!

I had a false fire alarm today.
During 4th period, I was in a portable and it was about 10-15 minutes before my lunch (Which is in the middle of 4th period, I am typing this at lunch.) The SpectrAlert Advance went off and the teacher evacuated the portable (Despite the procedure being to wait until further instructions.) It turns out that someone in an abandoned portable near the one I was in pulled the EST 270-SPO in there.

I changed to a new school! my school had a NEW, Notifier Inspire Panel with DVC, And LED L Series Speaker Strobes, yes. its a new school, with this unusual code 3 tone. pull stations are bg-12s.

It’s April 8th and we still hadn’t had our April fire drill yet… Come on!

Today, we had a tornado drill in summer school. Around 9:40 AM, the principal made an announcement over the intercom system, saying that we would be having a tornado drill and that the alarm would be going off soon. I’d never heard the tornado alarm at my school before, so I didn’t know what to expect. A couple of minutes later, the alarm went off. It turns out that they are using my school’s Audio Enhancement EPIC IP based intercom system for the tornado alarm. It has only a voice message and no tone. The voice message says, “Alert! A tornado warning has been issued! Please remain indoors until further notice”.

I was expecting them to use the Siemens voice evac system for the tornado alarm like they did for the lockdown alarm, but I guess not.

We do have a regular cadence for these posts that we’ve followed for years. While summer school may technically be part of the 25-26 school year for your school, it may not be the case for everyone. Many are still finishing the 24-25 year. For this reason, we’ll open up the 25-26 thread in about 2 months.

That works. Thanks for the clarification.
