For maximum protection, smoke alarms are a good idea

For maximum protection, smoke alarms are a good idea to be installed in every room of the house, including closets, but excluding bathrooms and areas where a heat detector should be used instead like kitchens, garages, attics and laundry rooms.

Why closets? seems like a waste of money to me.

If a fire were to start in the closet with the door closed, the smoke alarm in the closet would detect it faster.

California State Fire Marshal recommends having smoke alarms in closets.
California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Early warning detection is best achieved by the installation of fire detection equipment in all rooms and areas of the household as follows: A Smoke Alarm installed in each separate sleeping area (in the vicinity, but outside bedrooms), and Heat or Smoke Alarms in the living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, hallways, finished attics, furnace rooms, closets, utility and storage rooms, basements, and attached garages.
Everything seems to be different in California.
I’ve never heard of that as a recommendation before.

I always say California deserves to be its own nation…
