My nephew, Thomas Davis, was born yesterday around 1 PM. He is a CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia) where he was born with a hole in his diaphragm, and his stomach is in his upper chest, compressing one of his lungs and displacing his heart.
Today around 4 PM he was placed on an ECMO machine due to his lungs not being able to keep up. What ECMO does is takes over the function of the lungs, the heart, or both, to keep the baby alive. He needs treatment ASAP.
My brother and his wife are both unable to work right now and they need all the money they can get.
PLEASE, if anyone can spare even a dollar… help us! I’ll be forever grateful on their behalf.
You can donate here (they don’t take PayPal though)
Thanks everyone for anything you can do, on behalf of my brother, his wife, and my nephew.
FYI, If someone else ran into a situation like this I’d allow it instantly.
I’d also sticky them like I am doing with this topic.
For those who would like an update…
The ECMO gave my nephew’s organs a chance to recover and build their strength back up.
Yesterday around lunch time the cannula were removed, and with the aid of a ventilator, he is breathing on his own.
This morning he was taken down for surgery. Now is the turning point in his life.
I am praying that he survives today and will begin the long and slow road to recovery.
If anybody still wants to donate, the page is still up and any help would be appreciated.
Thank you everyone.
Here’s another update for everyone…
He survived surgery and recovered well. He is responding to the treatment extremely well. His body is fighting off death.
Right now he’s on a ventilator because one of his lungs is too small and needs time to develop, so the ventilator is helping his other lung do the function of both while it develops.
He now has a rubber patch on his diaphragm, which is expected to grow around the patch and eventually close up the hole itself (Kinda like how if you put a nail in a tree and wait a few years the tree’s bark grows around the nail)
I just saw a picture last night of him being held in his mother’s lap. He is doing strong and hopefully will be home by December.
