Which one is your favorite type of configuration? Do you like the idea of having horns/speakers on strobe plates, separate horn/speakers and strobes, or just simply horn/strobes or speaker/strobes?
For me, although it may seem complicated (and perhaps costly), my favorite setup would be horns or speakers on strobe plates (especially with Simplex).
This one is a tough call. I’m good with any sort of setup, whether it would be a Combo unit (speaker or horn/strobe) or two separate units that are either mounted separately or on a plate of some sort.
If I were to choose one, it would probably be Combo units. It would be much better to install a single unit that fits in a single box as opposed to mounting two separate units, whether in two individual boxes, or on a strobe/light plate of some sort. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to see the other two mentioned setups as well.
I think its kind of ugly, but it’s what we’ve been doing for ECS systems. Since it’s not possible to meet both the amber lens and labeling requirements on a single device I guess we’ll never see a combo unit with two strobes for that purpose.
If Simplex came up with one they might actually have a valid useful application for intelligent A/Vs, one circuit drives the device and it turns on either the amber lens or clear lens depending on the situation. Half the wire, half the circuits, half the power supplies, etc.
And half the cost! Oh wait… this is Simplex we’re dealing with, so never mind.
As for the OP, strobe plates have grown on me, although they are a pain to mount sometimes. Got to love those Space Age AV32s! (especially considering how it has been my avatar for 2+ years)
