How do I connect a fire panel to normal phone lines?

I have a Fire-Lite MS-10UD-7 and I was wondering what was necessary to connect it to a standard rj11 phone jack. I am not sure if a passive adapter will work or if I need a special device of some kind. Please let me know if anyone knows, thanks.

There’s nothing too fancy with them. For panels that have dialers built in, you can plug it in and program the number to dial for signals, and it will do so. That said, if you don’t have a system to decode that signal it’ll just sound like junk to your ear. I think I heard of some users in the community that had a hobby monitoring service setup. I don’t remember the name though… I think @NewAgeServer had a really short video at one point showing an Asterisk setup that allowed him to get calls that decoded the alarm signals on one of his systems.

I would suggest for a hobby system, you ensure no real phone numbers or account numbers are programmed in before you hook it up. If a panel wasn’t properly cleared before being sold it could result in an accidental signal going to a real monitoring company and we wouldn’t want that.

I suppose I should add that some panels may not play too nice with VOIP lines, including ATA adapters, so if things work spotty when you test around with this on your system just keep that in mind.

Alright thank you, I did make sure the phone numbers were blank, I also cleared the whole program when I first got it just to be sure.
