I have seen a number of these offered over the years on ebay and at ham radio swapmeets as antique Morse telegraph relays. The style favors a 1950s item, and the 1874 date I assume is when the company was founded?
Does anybody have an old Edwards catalog showing this item?
Edwards was founded in 1872, so you got it close (did you just mistype the year in the item listing’s name?).
If the item name says “Edwards telegraph relay” it may very well be for that & not an Edwards fire alarm system (especially since Edwards did start out making general electronics before concentrating on signaling devices full-time later on).
Yes. 1872.
Thanks!
It’s not marked ‘telegraph’ on the item. The telegraph moniker has strictly been from sellers who don’t really know if it’s a Morse item or not.
I found another photo of one new-in-the-box and that sure doesn’t look like a box that’s been in storage since 1872. The box describes it a ‘Dixie’ relay.
My guess is that its a mid 20th century item give or take and is a fire alarm item. The clincher would be a catalog from the era showing listing this for sale.
