Interesting ways to make an RMS-1T dual action

Anyone ever think of different ways you can make an RMS-1T dual action? I have. Here are a few:
Index card “push in” piece
Same “push in” deal, but with masking tape over the T handle that the user must break apart with their fingers
Paper flap

They already have a dual-action RMS-1T.

Does Grinnell own simplex?

Tyco bought Grinnell in 1976 and Simplex in 2001, and then merged them to make SimplexGrinnell.

So really Tyco owns simplex.

Correct.

Huh that’s really weird because I thought simplex was its own standalone Company

They used to be but not anymore. :frowning: I know, BigGreen but it’s just a metal flap that goes over the single action RMS-1T. And Nathan, no hard feelings about before, right? Are we cool?

Yes we are cool.

Yeah, it’s been SimplexGrinnell for 12 years now. It’s funny because nearly all of the alarm products are branded Simplex.
I see SimplexGrinnell trucks in the area frequently.

i wonder why?

Tyco bought both them and Grinnell/Autocall in 2000 and then merged them into one company.

Fun fact: Honeywell did this too at one point.

Another fun fact: DSC Security and Ansul are owned by Tyco as well.

Yet another fun fact: ADT Is owned by Tyco!

Why all the fun facts?

First, remember that Honeywell Fire & Security and Tyco Fire & Security are direct competitors to each other, right?

WELL…
ADT installs/re-brands DSC products… but most of the time they re-brand ADEMCO and Fire-Lite products – both Honeywell brands!

ALSO…
Ansul rebrands Fire-Lite agent releasing panels… as well as the Simplex 4004R.

Didm’t I just say Tyco and Honeywell are direct competitors? Hmm…

So, basically, Tyco owns most of the fire alarm market.

I’d actually say that it seems more like Honeywell owns most of then alarm market. Most of the instances that Andrew posted was Tyco rebranding Honeywell equipment.

It’s kind of like how Apple and Samsung are competitors, yet many of the components for Apple’s products are manufactured by Samsung.

Also, since all of this “who owns who” is a bit confusing, here is a list of the ownership of most of the major alarm companies, with some security companies thrown in.

On that list, Gentex is really the only company that isn’t owned by another one, but don’t forget that fire protection products only account for around 2% or less of their total net sales.

Thanks for the image!! I’ve been soo confused by all of this. This is a good idea for a wiki page. Yeah, Gentex makes most of its profit from auto dimming mirrors.

Don’t forget that ADT bought out Brinks/Broadview

I still remember some of the commercials that they used to air.

ADT is a large company so is Honeywell.

Wait, isn’t UTC and GE related some how?

I just realized, according to Wikipedia:
On September 28, 2012, ADT separated from former parent company Tyco International.
Even though ADT is now its own publicly traded company, Tyco still retains the rights to use the ADT brand outside of North America.

And UTC purchased GE’s fire and security business, which included EST.
