Is this a voice evac panel?

Hi all,
I was looking on eBay today and I stumbled across a Silent Knight SKE-300 and I was wondering if I could use it as a voice evac panel that could be tied into my Silent Knight IFP-50. Thanks!

Although the original post has been lost, this topic indicates that the SKE-300 is only an audio amplifier, not a full-blown voice-evac panel Silent Knight SKE300 Question

If this is the unit you are looking at on EBAY?

Shouldn’t this topic be in the “Fire Alarm Help” board?

I agree - so I moved the topic.

Yes it was, thanks for the help everyone

I thought so. Here is what I learned from reading the spec sheets.

The SKE-300 product identifier is a “parent” number for products and modules identified as SKE-3##. The actual modules used are manufactured by Signal Communications Corp. and marketed under the Audiosone brand. It is an almost complete audio system. It does not have an internal power supply. Operating power is drawn from the host fire alarm panel.

You would have to dedicate one NAC to use as a power output. The only other power output is the S-buss power which is rated at 0.5 amps - not enough power. The 20 watt SKE- unit draws up to 1.2 amps and if these are 40 watt units they can draw up to 3 amps. The SKE-300 does have a 120 VAC input. That is used for supervisory operations only. It does not power the audio portions of the unit.

The small module on the left is a distributed audio module to pick up audio from a remote master audio system.
The center module is the tone generator and amplifier module. Either 20 watts or 40 watts. I can’t tell which from the markings.
The right module is a 4 speaker circuit selector.

So this panel cannot be used as a standalone voice evacuation panel, correct?

The SKE-300 is not a stand alone panel. It is specifically made to be an adjunct to a standard fire alarm control panel.
From the installation documentation:
“The Silent Knight SK-300 series is a line of voice evacuation products suitable for use with Silent Knight’s Model 5204 and 5207 fire control/communicators.”

The SKE-300 does not have an internal power supply. It draws 24 VDC from a power output on the host FACP.

The SKE-300 does not have IDCs. There is no place to connect manual stations or smoke detectors. Those are connected to the host FACP this is controlled by.

This panel is triggered by a NAC from a host FACP. Troubles from an SKE-300 are reported to the host FACP by opening the trigger NAC which causes a trouble on the host FACP.

Here is the install information.

Now could it work just as audio if you applied 24 VDC to it?

With a power supply attached manual operation should work.

If I were to tie this panel into say a Fire-Lite MS-10 system, would it function as a voice evacuation panel and be able to play messages along with tones?
