It Appears Tyco Owns “SAPPHIRE”

At 2:58, you can see another BG-12 series knockoff.

Sapphire is also the name of the chemical that they use in those systems.

I wouldn’t call that BG-12 a knockoff, rather a rebrand,

I thought that the chemical they used was Novec 1230.

it is. sapphire is the brand name for tyco’s suppression system, novec 1230 is the gas produced by 3m or dupont used in a lot of these systems now.

surprisingly, they only use novec 1230, the only selling point of that gas is the zero ozone depletion. takes twice as much, costs more, larger footprint, etc… most companies from what i’ve seen offer 1230 and something like fe227 which works a whole lot better and is still considered environmentally friendly.

I thought the fire suppression company was Ansul.

It seems as though the Ansul brand is reserved for commercial kitchens/restaurants and Sapphire is for electronic equipment.

Ansul operates as it’s own company, which is now owned by Tyco. Own sales channels, distributors, etc…

Sapphire is the brand name of the suppression system Simplex sells along with it’s fire alarm systems, which operates as a different company that also happens to be owned by Tyco. Welcome to the world of conglomerates.

As UBoL0 eluded too, i’ve never seen an ansul system outside of a kitchen. it’s pretty much synonymous with kitchen hoods.
