I am in charge of a sizable Fire Alarm system. I need to have several descriptions changed. The changes will not affect the functionality of the system, just the label of the device. What is the testing requirements according to NFPA?
I’ve never heard of device label changes requiring any particular testing to be done at that point. It is important to make sure the descriptions are accurate for the responding fire department to understand. I’ve seen places get written up for inaccurate descriptions before.
That said, I’d suggest that if you’re making the changes on your own, have a list of changes to give your inspection/service company next time they’re on site to make their lives easier. A simple spreadsheet containing device ID, old description, and new description should help them in their testing, and help ensure the programming is accurate.
