Liberty University siren

Found this at Liberty University (I was at state championships for band).

Federal signal modulator (Don’t know the exact model)

Looks to be an original Modulator going by the rounded dish-shaped “cells” (as the latter are called): the current Modulator II has cells that are flat on the top & bottom instead. Going by what various sources show & tell me that’s likely a MOD3012, a Modulator model with 4 cells (as you can see/as shown), 12 drivers, & that can produce 115 dB at 100 feet.

Old Mod 3012. Wonder if it has an MC, MCP, or UltraVoice controller… Betting it runs for voice announcements and warnings on campus. As Carson said, the shape of the cells (3 active 1 dead) gives the type away. The original Mod (what you saw) has elliptical cells while the Mod II has cylindrical cells.

Yeah, its a MOD3012. There are 4 drivers in each cell. @s01sauc3 In case you are confused as to why the model has a 3 instead of 4 for well…4 cells, it is because there is only 3 Active cells. The sound is projected by the sound being directed downward, bouncing off the cell underneath. In other words, The sound from the top cell bounces off the second cell, the sound from the second cell bounces off the third cell, I think you get the pattern here. The very bottom cell is inactive and is there for sound projection only. To determine the Model of the Modulators, count the cells above the bottom cell, and times that number by 4 for the drivers. The model is written as MOD"number of cells" 0 “number of drivers”.

With what I said and what Carson said in this quote, this should help you identify the Modulator sirens.

Thanks! That should help next time I see one.
