In 1957, IBM sold its fire alarm division to Simplex.
In 1967, two seniors messing around in wood shop damaged a 4030. It was replaced with a 4040.
In 1972, A 4030 in a hallway going to the cafeteria (at the time) died and was also replaced by a 4040.
In 1980, the 4201 panel had several code relays go bad. It was replaced with a Simplex 2001 panel set to 90 BPM march time. All the chevrons were replaced with 4251-20 T bars, except one in a backstage storage room, which was disconnected. Also, many of the 4030s were replaced with 4050’s. Older style Truealarm smokes were also installed.
In 1990, St. Francis of Assisi HS merged with St. Anne HS, a nearby all girls school due to low admissions at both schools.
In 1992, a Radionics security system was installed.
In 2001, major ugrates were made to the system. The 2001 was replaced with an adressable 4020 panel set to code 3. The Radionics security panel was tied in to the Priority 2 terminal. Nearly all the old AC horns were ripped out and plated over, with Truealert horn/strobes placed at intervals in the hallways. However, the 4030 in the autos garage and the 4040s in the wood shop and the basement hallway were disconnected and left in place. The 4251-20s were also removed and plated over, and replaced with 4099 adressable t bars with stopper 2 covers. The old Truealarms were replaced with newer versions. The IBM class change bells were disconnected and replaced with a tone over the PA.
Wish my HS would do something like that to its 40 year old system. It’s 2008 and they still haven’t replaced it. It and another ES in my town are the only buildings I’ve seen with vintage alarms.
