Make up a system

Here is one that I have been meaning to share:

A rather large hotel, with 10 stories. Built around the mid-70s era.

The building used to have an older Simplex system, but was torn out and a Siemens MXL was put into a locked room on the ground floor.

Testing on the fire alarm system is under way, so alarms are frequent!

There are Cerberus MS-51 pulls in each of the hallways outside the rooms, and scattered in commons areas (like the lobby and dining room).

There are Cerberus MTL-S15-S horn/strobes in hallways and commons areas set to 120BPM march time by panel and coded to continuous horn.

In each room are white Wheelock MIZ-24Ss (120BPM march time) and newer non-system Firex smoke/CO detectors.

However, remnants of the old Simplex system still remain! There are 2901-9838s in the stairways and there is a C7001T on the top of each stairway (on the ceiling).

The system smokes are newer Cerberus photo smoke/heats in the hallways and commons areas, but there are older Cerberus fixed temp heats in stairways and in the basement.

There is also one lone 7002T in the basement.

I’m building a school (not literally of course) that is supposed to be a new Intermediate school for our district. It’s a fairly big school so there’ll be.

Panel: Simplex 4100
Pulls: Addressible Fire Lite BG 12 Pullstations
Notification Appliances: Simplex Addressible TrueAlerts in hallways and common areas and TrueAlert Strobes in classrooms and bathrooms.
Smokes: Simplex Addressible Smokes in hallways, stairwells, etc.

BG-12s won’t work on Simplex panels

Unless you use non-adressable BG-12’s and Simplex ZAM’s

For my Junior High School. The name of it is the Richard J. Hughes Junior High School.

  1. Wheelock 7002Ts are in the hallways

  2. The Home Economics rooms has a 9422

  3. Both computer rooms have the new U-MMTs

  4. The Library, which is particularly big, has a 792-7A-006

  5. The Cafeteria has 9833s

  6. The Gym has TrueAlerts

  7. Since I want to be particularly evil, 2903-9806s in the bathrooms

HERE are UNUSUAL fire alarm systems

In a museum in Lansing, there are Wheelock ET-1070-LSM-24s along with Edwards 270-SPO’s, however, in ONLY ONE area, there is an EST Genesis Speaker/Strobe. They do this following message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoL_pPNeNgU.

In another conventional building, there are System Sensor SpectrAlert Speaker/Strobes, Simplex 4099-9003 pulls, and 4903-9168s in some exit areas. They do this following message: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNx6nCnDwwk.

Another Elementary School:

  1. Main Alarm: Faraday U-HNH’s

  2. Alarms in the gym and the lecture hall: 9422s

  3. Cafeteria: 9806s

  4. The courtyard has Wheelock AS’s

  5. The Library, Special Populations and Computer Room have a SAE 2DCD

  6. Wheelock MTs in a seperate basement wing

  7. The bathroom has SpectrAlerts

A school was built in 1950 and it contained a coded system, with Simplex coded pulls and Simplex single-stroke bells.

In 1970, an addition was made, with Simplex coded pulls and 4030 horns.

And in 1985, another addition was put on, containing a Simplex panel, 4251 Chevrons and 4051’s with double projectors, mounted on 4050-85 plates with flashers. This called for an upgrade to the old system, which meant removal of the old stuff. New 4051+Double Projector+ 4050-85’s with flashers were installed. Coded to Continuous. All the pulls in the old sections became Chevrons.

A 4051 died in 1991, so it was replaced with a Faraday 6020 horn.

Code changes in 1996 changed local codes, and the school was upgraded:

New Simplex 4005, 4903-9219’s replacing EVERYTHING, and new 2099 pulls.

2007 came and brought with it a MASSIVE addition, which meant the panel had to be replaced yet again- This time a 4120. All pulls were now addressable 2099’s, and there were about 150 TrueAlerts installed in the new section. This place had a LOT OF SPACE!

Later that year, the oldest section was renovated.

A middle school in another part of town, built in 1980, had a Fire-Lite panel and BG-6’s, and Wheelock “whoopers” that look like 7002T’s.

1990 came with new BG-10’s.

1996 was a new upgrade, new Simplex 4005 and the “whoopers” were replaced with 4903-9237’s. The BG-10’s were kept.

2007: Building expanded: New 4100U with addressable 2099’s and TrueAlerts in the new section.

Pretty weird to have BG-10s along with Simplex Alarms due to the fact there are no buildings (in real life) that have Simplex alarms with non-Simplex Pulls.

Well they wanted to save money- the pulls worked fine!

Let’s skip to a High School. Name is Ernest W. McFarland High School.

  1. Gentex SHG’s as the system in the Hallway

  2. 3 larger rooms have alarms on there. One has a 2DCD and the other 2 have an Edwards Integrities

  3. A new wing of the school has Wheelock NSs which also has the new library which has a SpectrAlert Advanced

  4. Where the old library was is now a converted science lab with a Simplex 9838 in there

  5. The gym has Faraday U-HNHs

  6. The foyer has Wheelock MT4s

  7. The bathroom’s have -9219’s except for the gym locker rooms, which have Gentex Commander 3s

In a store, there were Simplex 4903-9168 speaker/strobes along with 4099-9001 pulls on a 4100 system. They also have Simplex TrueAlert Remote Strobes in the Bathrooms. They do this message heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AO9BvsJ48Wo. However, the strobes on the speakers started to malfunction (They were testing the alarm system, they do system tests yearly), and they replaced it with FCI Speaker/Strobes (the one that has a bubble on the strobe). The pulls, remote strobes, and panels were kept.

In another store, there were Simplex 4903-9168 speaker/strobes, along with 4099-9001 pulls on a 4100 system. They have TrueAlert strobes in the bathrooms. They do that same message from weatherdan’s college but without the chime in the beginning. However, a kid went crazy taking a hockey stick (yes, it’s a sports store) and smashed the glass from the strobe by accident, then deciding to smash the glass on the strobes from literally all the alarms in the buildings. Then one of the staff members called the Simplex Corporate office (yes, they know what all the alarm components are made by) telling one of them that a kid smashed the strobes of all the units, and gave them their address. Five days later, the SimplexGrinnell van arrived and a tech came in and inspected all the alarms. He decided to call FCI if they could come in and replace the alarms but they said no. So he decided to call Edwards if they could come in and replace the alarms and they said “yes”. A week later they replaced the speakers with Edwards Integrity speaker/strobes. The remote strobes, pulls and panels were kept.

  1. OUCH!

  2. What are they set to?

  3. What are the Commander3s set to?

7 is Code-3, the alarm you would hear if you were is continuous.

From hearing more horror stories from NAS, Code-3.

In a high school there were Edwards 792s (refer here) with Edwards 270-SPO’s hooked up to an Edwards panel (help me with the Edwards panels). But in 2002, the 792s and 270-SPO’s went bad. They replaced the 792s with TrueAlerts, 270-SPO’s with 2099 Generic T-Bars (they say “FIRE” on two sides), the Edwards panel has been replaced with a 4005 in favor to produce code-3.

An elementry school that was made in 1988, because I like the number 88 for some reason, has these alarms:

  1. The halls except the foyer have Edwards 892 (at a low volume)

  2. The foyer has Wheelock 7002t-24 (specifically 5 of them)

  3. The kindergarten rooms have low volume TrueAlerts

  4. The bathrooms have SpectrAlert Advances

  5. The gym has Gentex Commander Code-3s

  6. Computer room has an SHG

  7. Cafeteria has 9422s

The name of the school is Richard J. Oglesby Elementry School.

A middle school was built in 1995. There were System Sensor MASS’s (with trim plates) and Simplex 2099-9754s installed on a 4001 System. In main halls, big classrooms, and library, they are set to Hi-Lo (1000/800Hz Alternating). But in pathway halls they are set to 1200 Hz Interrupted. The small classrooms have PA400Bs. The bathrooms have System Sensor SS strobes. Now they added a new wing in 2007. The new wing has Wheelock NS’s set to code-3, Fire-Lite BG-12LX’s, Fire-Lite MS-5UD panel, Wheelock MIZ mini-horn unit’s (code-3) in the newer classrooms, One lone Wheelock AS (continuous), RSSs in the bathrooms, and ZNS’s in the new conference room. However, they had the MS-5UD coded to march time until mid-October. The MS-5UD is set to normal right now. The school’s name is Columbus Middle School.

A Middle School which has two buildings. The basement of the first building only has the itinerants in place and the gym. The second building has no basement. It’s called the George R. Ariyoshi Middle School.

Building 1:
1. Wheelock MTs in the hallways
2. Mircoms in the Health Rooms
3. Wheelock AS in the Assembly Room
4. Integrity in the Art and Music Room
5. One 4050 in the Library

Building 2:

  1. U-HNHs over here
  2. TrueAlerts in the Computer Room they have over there
  3. Wheelock NS in their study halls
  4. Wheelock 7002T-24 in the bigger classrooms
  5. ESTs in the office
  1. Code-3 Tone or Code-3 Horn?
  2. Integrity?
