MNS system on part of a floor

I tried do a search but couldn’t find the search function for this board. Hello, a newbie, first time post, long time fire designer.

I have a Government customer that is leasing 1/2 of a floor in a civilian building. They want a MNS system installed, in their space, and its only about 5,000 sq ft. It seems like a waste to me as a bull horn could evacuate 5,000 sq. ft, IMO. This is a multiple floor building, 4 I think, and they only want to protect their 1/2 of a floor. I have a call into the FM designer for the jurisdiction, but am waiting for his reply.

What would you do and you plan be? I would be unable to silence the fire system is the single suite, so I most likely would have to demo it and have the MNS follow the main fire system as a slave for fire. Then for MNS it would act independently of the building fire system. I have done plenty of MNS systems, but always entire buildings or entire suites in building with voluntary systems.

Personally I think the Govt. should work on a plan with the civilian building owner about moving forward with MNS in the entire building eventually, but I am not in charge of this.

what did you guys end up doing?

“MNS” systems vary widely depending on who you’re talking too, some people are fine with just speakers, government usually wants amber strobes and some want an input from a wide area mns system that can override the FA system. for this it almost sounds like that half of a floor needs it’s own dedicated FA panel that’s interconnected to the building FACP.
