I just wanted to show you guys a new addition to my collection!
I love vintage simplex fire alarm stuff and I’ve always wanted one of these since I was a little kid. So without further or do, I present the newest addition to my collection,
The simplex 4051 + 4050-80 light plate!
I absolutely love this thing. And I’m glad to finally have one. Stay posted for videos!
Very nice! I have a 4051+4050-80 as well, but it’s got black “FIRE” lettering on the lens.
Mine uses the same kind of bulb as the 2903 incandescent 24-VDC light plates and Space Age AV32 light plates.
And as many of you may know, this is the first alarm I ever heard go off in person. The K-8 school I went to for kindergarten had them (same kind as yours), and they were LOUD, and on Slow March Time as well! (We actually had one in my classroom!) They still have most of them (it’s a Simplex 4010 system tied into an old Simplex 4208 panel; the alarms are the originals from when the school was built in 1974.) BUT, they might upgrade this summer if they go ahead with the renovation, and the staff said I could probably have several parts from the old system! (like alarms, pulls, detectors, etc.)
My college used to have them in the buildings built in 1978, but they’re long gone now. (Two of the buildings now have Space Age VA4 horn/strobes, three of them have SpectrAlert Advance horn/strobes; the college mostly uses Notifier stuff nowadays.)
Nice! I wish mine had black lettering on it. I want another lens for mine because mine has a pretty good sized crack in the top.
Would you be willing to sell some of that stuff you get from the upgrade if they go ahead with it?
But of course! I don’t plan to keep ALL of it. Plus, my middle school might upgrade this summer and they said I could get parts from it as well, except they’ve got an old Gamewell FlexAlarm system from 1957 with flush-mount Federal Signal horns (they look like the current explosion-proof models, but red and with flush trim plates.) I imagine a number of collectors here will want some of those too!
They are a little tough to mount, but its a cake-walk compared to some alarms. There are some I managed to get up on my wall that I hope will stay there for a long time. If only walls could talk…mine would repeat back a lot of obscenities in my display area. lol
Haha yes its a little odd to mount. it gets presses against the back box. But it is kind of a pain when trying to hold it, the horn, and a screwdriver. Nice video btw signalalert haha
When I tried to mount mine, the 4051 flew out of my hands and hit my MASSada strobe on the ground. Lol I cracked the Ada, yet fixed it with superglue. Should’ve known not to touch it after I glued it. Was stuck to that mass for 2 hours. Still has some of my skin on it, yet I painted over it.stupid idea.
Well, we all learned a lesson from you. So you are now a teacher! Someone should made a how-to video showing how to mount a 4051 (I am being completely serious, like an unlisted how-to series for people on this forum)
Imagine my parents reaction when I walked inside with a MASSADA strobe glued to my finger.
I am glad I got it off before we went to the store later on.
