Hey guys, this is a video showcasing my smoke alarm collection. There is one part of the video where i interconnected the AC power alarms and a little warning that it is extremely loud. The heavily yellowed SA67D doesn’t get tested with the rest. (You’ll see why)
Quite interesting that your two SA86RACs are different pitches (though also odd that they both sound for a good several seconds after putting the battery in (& when being tested, since I’m pretty sure that detectors from that era should stop nearly instantly upon the test button being released, like with the SA67D you tested), unless that’s when BRK/First Alert started having their detectors briefly sound upon installing the battery to let you know that it’s working (even if I’d say they sorta overdid the duration in the case of the 86RAC & its variants, heh). As far as I can tell the first SA86RAC is also more around what one probably sounds like normally pitch-wise (as well as most other BRK/First Alert units too).
Nice job on getting all of your AC-powered units hooked up!
Interesting how all but one of the detectors you have do 4/6, & then there’s the one USI Electric that does Temporal Code 3 instead (though to be fair it’s quite a bit newer than all the others. USI might have made detectors way back in the day that did 4/6 though). Odd how it goes on for a while after being tested like the SA86RACs.
I take it that around 2:33 is when you test the interconnect on all of the hardwired ones, right? (& even though you’re not supposed to interconnect different brands, I am quite surprised that the SA86RACs & the USI Electric unit sounded each other without an apparent problem. I’m also rather surprised by how much faster the SA86RACs are at alarming the USI compared to the other way around) Did you put in a switch for that so you can isolate the detectors from each other when you test them?
Sheesh, something’s seriously wrong with that yellowed SA67D: kinda reminds me of a SA125C that I have that doesn’t work right (though in its case not only will it not stop alarming for some reason, but its horn isn’t audible either).
You would be correct. If it didn’t come through on the video, THAT WAS LOUD lol.
That Is a good idea, but at the moment I do not. That pause in the video was actually me turning the board around and connecting the wires together.
Yeah, the Georgia summers were a bit rough on the ole’ girl especially since it was in a camper. Also the door was not supposed to fall off. But hey, it added a bit of humor to it didn’t it .![]()
Now I’m probably completely wrong, but I think it might be a way to test any other detectors that may be interconnected to it. Again this is just a theory and it may be a completely different reason.
Oh yeah, I bet!
Ah okay, yeah.
That’s for sure (though it’s technically “cover”).
Oh, maybe.
