New Acquisition “Montgomery Wards 84-71666-00” This is a rebrand of the BRK 79R made from Circa 1979 to Circa 1985. This particular 84-71666-00 is rare as it not only has a tiered button but also utilizes the (banana horn) as people call it.

FX 1020 is from 1989 and FX 1014 is from 1985, so you were not bad at guessing.

Here’s something you don’t see too often; an older i9040 with a diamond grille and does 4/6. And in mint condition as well. Wonder what Hydraulic160 would think…

New Acquisition! Montgomery Ward 83-71650-00 this is a rebrand of the Lifesaver Fyernetics F900D, this specific unit is from 1977! Definitely one of the stranger units Wards sold.

New Acquisition! Family Gard FG777 this was Family Gards debut model based on the BRK 77R, this specific one was made in 1977!

Nice acquisitions!

How exactly have you been able to tell the dates of these detectors? (since there doesn’t seem to be a date code anywhere on them) Also, despite it nearly always being written as “Family Gard, Inc.”, have they always just been a brand name of BRK Brands, Inc. rather than a separate company?

The date on the Wards is printed on a label in the interior base of the unit, and the Family Gard has the date code stamped on the PCB aswell as having a date code on the label. Now for the Family Gard question they have and still are a devision of BRK and are meant to be the more affordable option if you couldn’t/can’t afford First Alert or BRK, although BRK was and still is for the most part a contractor brand.

Oh, okay. Did you ever consider however that maybe the date code on the PCB is the date it was designed, not the date it was manufactured? (& how is the date code on the FG777’s label supposed to be interpreted? (not that I seem to see one there, though I know how the Wards’ is likely supposed to be interpreted)

Yeah, but my question is that were they once their own separate company that was acquired by BRK at some point (which as I said their name nearly always being written as “Family Gard, Inc.” backs up) or have they just been a brand name of BRK (just with “Inc.” tacked on the end for some reason) the whole time?

I made a mistake with the Family Gard they did not put the Dates on the label they only had them on the PCB. From what I understand BRK created Family Gard as an affordable option if people couldn’t/can’t afford the First Alert branded units.
