I’m pretty sure that’s a PIR motion sensor.
That makes sense, as the device detects motion for the night light feature

How it would sense motion through a solid plastic button like that though?
That plastic button is likely opaque to visible light, but transparent to infrared light (like the glass top of an electric stove).
I believe it is, I could see light through it, but it appears mostly solid from just the look
