New Notifier Alarm Found?

So recently I was on a trip in Atlanta. I went to a restaurant called Aunt Pittypat’s Porch. On the way in I saw an older BG-1, and some home smoke alarms. I ate, and was going to leave, as all i saw was some other BG-1’s. The I saw a vent- or was it? I did a double take. It was a red flush mounted object with a silver plate around it. I looked closer, and saw a little N. NOTIFIER! It had to be! I had never seen anything like this before, and here you all go:

Could it be a NuTone fan?

I don’t think so, as most of Nutone’s products I’ve seen say Nutone on them, rather than having just an N.

Looks more like a fan to me. Did you see anything inside there?

Sorry for bump but I can’t find anything that looks remotely similar to that in Notifiers discounted data base. So I’m going to let someone else have at it. It kinda looks like a Edwards horn, But you said there was a distinct “N” on it. I also don’t think it could be a fan, Usually fans aren’t red. Unless smoke exhaust fans are supposed to be red?

If this is in an interior space I think you’re onto something. There is no reason an exhaust fan should vent back into a building. That N is also very distinctive to the style that Notifier uses.

However, if this is mounted on the exterior of a building it may just be an exhaust vent.

Due to the lack of obvious blades and because it looks like an interior space, its probably not an exhaust fan. Whether or not it is a fire alarm device or not is still in question. Was this the only one or did you see multiple units?

Almost looks like a large version of this:

This is indoors. There was only one that i found, but I didn’t see the entire building.

And look how similar the N on the pull is to the one on the horn:

HOLY S***
I want one.
NOW.
lol.

Let me look in a 60s Notifier catalog I have, maybe this is in there.

I wonder what that would sound like. Probably like 60 hertz of thunder!

What Andrew said…lol

That is really neat. The N does look a lot like the Notifier logo, and considering it was paired with Notifier pulls, it would seem like that must be an alarm and not a vent. I’ve never seen anything like it, I wonder what it sounds like, and what type of horn it is.

I couldn’t imagine what that would sound like. I think it would produce a sound lower than 60Hz or maybe it’s a siren? Looks too big to be a horn.

Look at the size of the bricks. Unless they are huge bricks, I think its probably only about 6" x 6".

This is a really interesting picture. I am also going to have to dig though some documents online and ask some alarm techs to see if they can shed some light on what that is.
