Newbie - Restoration Questions

Hi All,

I am new to this, just got a Meanwell box on a pedestal. The outside of the system has been restored nicely.

I plan to restore the inside components. I have all three keys, but it is missing the cover box and window for the key, and also the caged light.

Where would I go to find these items? I want to detail the inside box, powdercoat it and polish all metal components. My past-time is restoring old slot machines so it’s right up my alley.

I am open to any suggestions or comments. Please school me on fire alarm boxes!

Is Meanwell actually a company or is it a nickname for Gamewell?

From what I can find, it appears they are separate. Meanwell makes industrial automation equipment now… Maybe they made street boxes?

Interesting find, romegoam!

Now that I think about it… That looks like the old Gamewell call boxes in NYC… very similar design…

Doh! I meant GAMEwell. Oddly, I just purchased a computer power supply yesterday, made by Meanwell, and must’ve had that name stuck in my head… 8)

Anyway, the Gamewell box, looking for the little dog house that surrounds the key. Probably impossible to find, in which case I’ll fabricate something that looks like it. Not sure how, but I’ll come up with a suitable surround if I can’t locate the part.

It seems to work well, the movement times out with the 3-3-3 contact wheel operating properly as long as I force the relay into its closed position. I will be looking at replacing the old paint with bright red powdercoating which will dress up the inside. Then I’ll build some sort of interactive system that would ring a bell and light the top light when it’s in operation.

Interesting machine.

I have to admit I did do a google of Meanwell and all that came up were electronics manufacturers so I actually believed that it did manufacture fire alarm equipment at one point.

Got into this beast, have most of it detailed out. I can’t decide whether or not to highlight the fist with lightning bolts in white.

I’m waiting for an OEM cage light and plan to wire it up to blink when the mechanism is running. It’ll blink out the “333” code and double as a night light.

Overall, it is in terrific shape. Looking sweet sitting in my game room.

Painted, polished and restored a repro key house and put a laser-cut piece of acrylic in place of the glass that appears to have been broken already. This permits access to the key and still maintains the glass look. Designed to allow your fingers to get to the key without getting impaled by shards of glass - each point is smoothed out.

Next, I’m going to install a remote alarm bell that chimes when the signal wheel is in action. I found an original lamp for the top and have it wired to the alarm signal system so it blinks when the clock runs.
