I don’t know why so many people have to make users angry. Alarm’s are expensive and so are other pieces of equipment like that. If you look hard enough you might get lucky. I got a Adapatabel. I’m happy I own one. -__- Some users don’t have time to make videos as they have work or school. I want to be a Fire Alarm Technician. A good one that might become a professional. I rather work hard for finding alarms myself.
If I look on eBay at the right time, I can find some interesting stuff for a decent price (notable examples: Wheelock ET-1010+WS24, Wheelock CF819T+WS24VDC, and some of my other finds). I usually look often to see if something interesting like that pops up. Surprisingly, I haven’t had too many “Can I have it” comments recently, especially for such rare devices. When I have had people asking me for something, it was usually on my “Big Unboxing” video. The interesting thing about this is that people were asking me for more common items (such as an EST Genesis Horn/Strobe or the TrueAlert).
Because they are young kids and don’t know about the rare older, vintage, alarms. They were only exposed to the newer alarm systems in newer schools and all the newer alarms are very common.
I always seem to find some great deals on some rare/unusual alarms on ebay, and even better deals with the common alarm stuff. I can understand why some people on youtube are asking for the common stuff, I’ve seen stuff on ebay that are just way too expensive. IMO I don’t think alarms on there should be 40 or more in price, except for the really rare stuff.
Today’s youth have been exposed to newer things such as those two items I listed, not necessarily vintage, older, items. It seems to make sense that they want those items as more of a “momento” or something to what they have seen.
*Slightly off topic: I usually try to spend somewhere below $20 for any device, rare or common (maybe go a little higher if I need to). $30 is ok, but $40 is just ridiculous, well, at least to us collectors.
I was including the shipping as well with the total price lol But for me it’s way higher to get fire alarms, since I live in Canada and shipping prices from the US to here are just ridiculous! :x I usually try to aim for $30 in overall price, only $40 if its rare and I really want it, and from that, I usually don’t buy it unless it’s one of a kind or a panel (I got 2 panels off of ebay for under $70 each).
Yep. Alarms are expensive, especially in Canada. Unless I’m buying an alarm from Canada, it can get pretty ridiculous with shipping. You mainly have to be patient and wait for good prices to pop up. I actually purchased three Edwards 439D 10" bells for $10 (Plus $15 shipping)! The cheapest price I can see on eBay now is $50 for one bell!
You have to be careful, though. My dad was browsing eBay, and he thought he had found a control panel for 10 bucks… but if it weren’t for me reading the fine print, we would’ve wasted 65 bucks (shipped from US) for a broken control panel being sold for parts!
