Notifier AFP1010 Fire Alarm Panel

Here’s another completed project in my series of panel builds!
After procrastinating for way too long, I finally finished building my Notifier AFP1010, the smaller brother of the AM2020.

This AFP1010 has 3 bays, including a voice system and an XP transponder. I was considering 4 bays (as commonly seen with the AM2020) but decided on something a bit smaller. I had a spare CAB-4, so I used it for this panel (CAB-3s are rather rare nowadays).

The top bay contains the CPU and other primary components. On the right side is the CPU; behind it is a CCM-1 module. On the left is a SIB-2048 for annunciators/PC/printer, and behind that is a LIB-400 card, which contains 2 SLC loops for devices.

The middle bay is covered with an ACM-24AT annunciator (with 2 expanders). I programmed these to indicate alarm points, and control NACs/relays.

Inside contains the voice components for the panel: an AMG-1 and AA-30 amplifier. The AMG-1 has all 4 chips installed (VROM-122, VROM-120, and 2 VRAMs). Each message corresponds to a different event. Hence, I designed this AFP1010 to be more of a voice alarm system than just fire alarm.

The bottom row contains the XP transponder. The XP transponder acts as a subpanel to the main fire alarm system. It can hold up to 24 monitor, control, or relay points.

This transponder has 8 monitor, 8 relay (+2 on the transponder CPU), and 8 control points. All of these are seen as modules by the AFP1010 CPU.

The AM2020/AFP1010 uses the MPS-24A power supply, same as used on the System 5000.

Considering the age of these panels, I’m very happy to have a working one. Out of all the AFP panels, the AFP1010 is the most laborious to put together. The top bay is the most troublesome, as modules need to have matching system revisions. The original SIB card decided to fail, so I installed a spare. Hopefully it lasts…

Given their age and complexity, these panels are on borrowed time. I just hope my AFP1010 survives to be part of a NOTI-FIRE-NET network, which I plan to create once my other Notifier panels are finished. While slow and complex, the AFP1010/AM2020 boasts the largest point capacity (for the AFP lineup), and has the most flexibility with the AMG-1 voice panel. There’s much more to explore on this panel that I can’t fit into this post.

A very welcome addition to the collection!

Nice! I cant wait to see this added to your Notifier network.

Did you record the system working? High quality VROM chips are extremely rare let alone AMG tones too.

Yes, it’s in good working order! I will be making a video about it eventually.
