Notifier LNG-1R Replaced a Fire Lite BG-12?

This is located at a Middle School and was originally a Fire Lite/Notifier BG-12 but it got replaced with an LNG-1R.

The system has an entire system with LNG-1Rs so either they moved the BG-12 to a different location or they somehow got an LNG-1R.

Why on earth would they downgrade to an LNG-1R? This makes 0 Sense.

That doesn’t make any sense, but I wouldn’t say it’s a downgrade. I firmly believe that the BG-12 is the worst pull station you can buy today. Although, if that was really their concern they could have just replaced it with another modern pull station. I really have no idea what is going on here.

Might be a case of new-old stock (not sure why this is a thing but yeah).

It doesn’t make sense, but, unlike a smoke detector from that era, that pull station is still perfectly up to code.

The BG-12 probably failed like usual and some guy probably had this thing sitting in the back of his truck.

That’s a rather hot take - they’re very easy to install, quite reliable, come in many different addressable flavors, is easy to reset with both the key AND allen version (can’t say the same about the 270-SPO, for example) and can be opened/replaced without activation. What more do you want from a pull station?

(That last point might be a downside in terms of tamper detection, but improves serviceability IMO.)

You make a good point, but the BG-12s are generally cheaply made and the switch mechanism is prone to failure (less so than the BG-10, but still). Still one of my favorite pulls features-wise but reliability is questionable.

That does seem possible considering the area I live in has Dozens of LNG-1Rs (If I were to make a guess, 20-30 at least.)

I still find it interesting how an uncommon pull station replaced a super common (and quite faulty) pull station.
