Notifier NFS-640 ONYX Fire Alarm Panel

After several months and some delays, I finally completed another fire alarm panel project!
Here is the Notifier NFS-640, part of the 1st generation of ONYX series panels.

This panel contains a mix of new and used parts. It has 2 bays, 2 CRM-4RK modules, and an ACM-24AT (with an expander). All of the dress panels and backbox are new; I pulled the door from an AFP-400 panel.

The top bay contains the CPU on a CHS-M2 chassis. The CPU has an internal power supply, 4 built-in NACs, relays, EIA-485 (annunciators/AMG-1), EIA-232 (PC/printer), and one SLC loop. The CHS-M2 supports up to 2 panel circuit modules and various other cards. An LEM-320 SLC loop expander and an NCM-W network card are attached to the CPU board. The dress panel for the top bay is the DP-DISP.

The middle bay contains the ACM-24AT. The annunciator is attached to an ADP-4B dress panel. Inside is a fully-loaded CHS-6 with a variety of XP modules, including: XP5-M monitor, XP5-C control/relay, XP6-MA zone interface, XP6-R relay, XP10-M monitor, and XP6-C control. All of these modules communicate to the CPU via the SLC. Altogether, this provides the system with 21 monitor points, 11 NACs, and 6 relays.

The bottom bay is just space for batteries. It has the BP-4 dress panel.

I configured this NFS-640 to be a fully-contained demo setup. Each of the relay modules can trip the monitor points on the system. The ACM-24AT displays the status of monitor points and provides toggle controls for NACs/relays.

The NFS-640 is one of my favorite Notifier panels (after the NFS-3030). I prefer the 1st generation ONYX panels over 2nd gen, mostly because the older ONYX panels still support panel circuit modules. The NFS-640 inherits many features from older AFP panels (i.e. AFP-400): networking, voice/telephone features (AMG-1/FFT-7), and suppression/release. It adds to these features with: the FlashScan protocol, strobe synchronization (System Sensor), and an optional larger LCD screen (NCA).

In the future, I plan to network this panel to all of my other compatible Notifier panels. Another excellent addition to my collection of fire alarm panels!

I’ve always liked the way the Notifier cabinets look in black, great job building this panel!
