We need an option to flag topics that are similar to existing topics
Back when people were more active here, mods would often merge topics. I guess a function where you could suggest a topic be merged would be cool, but that’s assuming there’s that functionality in Discourse (which Zach knows my opinion about)
It was more of a suggestion but good point
I do still merge topics when duplicates come up, but generally only if there’s an established and active post. I’ll see if I can make a custom flag for duplicate though, otherwise, you can send a message to moderators for us to handle it.
And yes @_azln, Discourse has the functionality.
@anon8378335 Currently, Discourse does not allow us to create custom flag reasons. However, you can still use the flagging to let us know! When you see a duplicate post, go to flag it. Select “Something Else” from the choices that appear, and there’s a text field that shows up to enter the reason for the flag. Put something simple like “Duplicate of post - (link to the post here!)” and we’ll be notified and can handle it if we agree.
Thx for the suggestion
This feature was announced one day before this reply, it has been implemented now. (It probably wasn’t on our version at the time of solution!)
