Outdoor, battery operated alarm help

OK so I have been having some trouble with an alarm system. To be specific it is not a FACP, in fact I am very broke, I decided to go with a 9 V Battery. So before I asked for any help, I will give you the devices that I have put on the system. Letting you know now since I know I might get this question asked later, the system is outside. To avoid me getting so stressed out installing the system and getting frustrated with myself "like I always do,"I have installed the system prior to this post. The system has gone through rain, ice, snow. The system consists of a Simplex 2099-9754. Simplex Truealert. And a knockoff notification.

I think the rain, ice, and snow are the issue. Also most truealert devices usually need a sync protocol to work. You also need more than 1 battery since 9 volts isn’t enough to properly power most fire alarm devices.

Yeah: outdoors isn’t the place for most life safety devices (aside from ones that are made to be installed outdoors of course), & Kai’s also right in that more than one 9V battery is needed, 3 specifically.

Updated your title. Please don’t make titles like “read this post” as they do not provide context.

The truealert doesnt work. When I first got it, the fuse had been blown.

Yes. As I was wiring the system, I realized how could I do it. The pull station is installed in an area where rain, ice, and snow doesn’t reach. I removed the button since I have no drill bit.

Fuse? Last I checked most if not all notification appliances don’t have fuses.

Alright. Still though: take care to ensure that they’re properly shielded from the elements since they’re likely not weatherproof (though just the same if they’re in a building like a shed that may not be enough since there’s no HVAC, insulation, & such).

Something blew. I dont know what it was

And yes its in a little shed.

It might be the strobe capacitor

the horn doesnt work either.

Do you have a sync module? Also it’s a standard true alert and not a true alert es right?

No. I just used wires and a battery.

Most TrueAlert devices need smart sync or some form of coding to work. If you take off the cover and it has two sets of terminals or a switch you can change it to free run so it will work without sync but most models don’t have that.

What’s your TrueAlert’s model number? It might be SmartSync or Addressable. Then you’d need special equipment to run it.

I dont remember. I took and removed the alarm model trimplate a long time ago

Yes, I have a standard true alert. I do not have a sync module. As I know a bunch about alarms, however I own very little alarms.

Ah. Then there’s no way to know whether or not it’s SmartSync or not.

Idk how you hung it then. The model sticker is on the mounting bracket

I have it mounted on wood. The alarm is screwed into wood. I remember taking off the mounting bracket BEFORE mounting the alarm up in November of 2024.

I should rephrase what I said because I just learned TrueAlerts don’t have separate mounting brackets. The device is the bracket. Only ES TrueAlerts apparently have them, and I doubt you have an ES model so forget what I had asked.
