Does anyone know this voice evac message from the Palisades Mall in West Nyack, NY? It sounds like this: “Attention! Attention! For your safety, please proceed to the nearest emergency exit.” The mall has Honeywell XLS-278 or the EST rebrand, the SIGA-278 pull stations, Integrity remote speakers, Integrity speaker/strobes EST 202-5A-T remote strobes, EST 405-7A-T remote strobes, and SIGA-PS detectors. Some comments in one video state it is an EST ESA-2000 (the mall was built in 1998), while I believe it is a Honeywell XLS-1000 or EST3 (the Edwards version), as the booster panels located in the bathroom hallways on the 4th floor are EST booster panels.
That mystery has been solved (the Palisades Mall uses a custom voice message), but what panel is in use here? I am leaning towards EST3 due to the mall’s size, as the ESA-2000 supports less devices, but both systems are addressable and the SIGA pulls/detectors can be used on the ESA-2000 and EST3.
The slow whoop sounds like EST2 slow whoop (which may have been used on early EST3 panels) as compared to the ESA-2000’s slow whoop. Also, the EST3 I know has recording functionality (the ESA-2000 may not have recording functionality).
The only way to know is to look at the pull stations: if they are Honeywell-branded, then the panel is an XLS-1000. If the pulls are EST SIGA-278s, then the panel is an EST3 or IRC-3 (judging based on the annunciator.)
Also, based on the size, we can rule out the EST2 and ESA-2000, as those panels are made more for medium-sized installations, such as a supermarket, school, or department store.
I’m with this guy that it could be a Honeywell. They actually rebranded EST panels, like the EST3 as the XLS-1000. And they also have a history of rebranding EST stuff. Examples include:
I was there in January, and the panel was a Honeywell-rebranded EST3, with Honeywell XLS-278 pulls, and Integrity speaker-strobes and single-gang remote strobes!
Wow! I’ve been to this a mall a few times. I never really paid much attention to the fire alarm system, but it’s cool to see it in action.
In my hometown, there’s 2 malls. The smaller and closer one had an EST voice evac system installed a few years ago, I’m not sure what was there before.
The larger and busier mall has a Simplex system. I saw at least one 4100U years ago, but it’s likely a 4120 network based off the sheer size of the mall. I think there’s a few videos of this system in action. It played the older 4100+ slow whoop. I’ve been at the mall when the system was silenced (but strobes were flashing).
Another weird thing, I found a Siemens U-MMT/U-MH-MCS on a Silent Knight system in a Food City in Dandridge TN, honestly I wouldn’t say it is in the best of conditions, but it probably just needs to be cleaned a little bit. The rest of them are BG-12s and some red Wheelock Eluxa LED Horn/Strobes on the ceiling.
