People behind evac

Yeah I’ve wondered who did the Vintage simplex messages too.

No idea why to be honest: they don’t work for Area 51 do they?

Probably due to security and it preventing misuse of their voices.

Yeah. In other words, they do not use the attention.

In my region, the standard “simplex gal” audio files are what gets used and is… um… affectionately referred to as the “Bi*** in the box.”

The newer recordings sound MUCH more up-beat. I mostly work at a large university which bought a set of custom recorded messages, but they kept the original female “all clear” message, which in comparison sounds slow and depressed… Like she just woke up from a weekend-long bender.

Just like that one military aircraft voice huh? (who has “Betty” in her nickname)

Yeah: definitely seems like “Simplex Gal” doesn’t really put that much effort into recording her lines (though are you implying that since Simplex hired “Simplex Gal” they’ve had her record more “upbeat” messages? (or even just hired a new female voice actor altogether).

That all-clear message wouldn’t happen to be this one would it? (this is the only “Simplex Gal” all-clear message I know of)

Yep, that’s the one. Recorded decades ago, and still in use. The newer “Simplex Gal” isn’t quite so slow and somber But I only ever hear her on custom recorded messages.

I figure it won’t be long before fire alarm audio will support AI-generated/Text to voice, programmable on site.

Ah, k, thought so.

Oh, really? The earliest I recall hearing any message with this exact female voice actor is in this 2011 video by Zak Wolf. Would this 2015 video happen to have Simplex’s supposed newer female voice actor in it? (especially since the latter is very likely a custom message)

Yeah, though last I heard Mircom already offers the latter.

Hmm I’m not sure… That CO message sounds like it may be the same VA as the earlier messages. You’re right it does sound custom, though. I pulled up the CO evac message I use and played them back to back, I believe the new one is a different person.

I’m not sure how far back the classic simplex gal goes, but she’s in the standard 4100U message library which goes back at least to the early 2000s.

Edit - messed up the quoting, so just gave up

Oh, okay. Not sure I know “New Simplex Gal” (including what she sounds like) then.

Ah alright. I suppose the 2000s is over a decade ago by now (which might have been what confused me since in the 1990s & earlier I’m pretty sure “Old Simplex Guy” (AKA “pre-ES-series Simplex Guy”, since “New Simplex Guy” seems to have “originated” with the ES-series) was basically the only voice actor, male or female, that Simplex had at the time).

Yeah: no idea what caused the quote function to apparently mess up for you, but yeah, heh.

works with me lol. Maybe

It works for me too. Although ngl trying to do it kinda automatically edited the quote out for some reason but I put it back in and it’s just fine.

Well, it looks like a new DMC-1 phrase has been discovered!

It’s “Fire alarm”, I don’t think any of us heard this one before.

PS: I have some DMC-1 vocabulary I have been enhancing with Adobe Podcast back in July.
They are not final yet, but these are the phrases I have so far:

Introductory Phrases

  • “May I have your attention please?” (male version)

Contextual Phrases

  • “Emergency”
  • “Alarm”
  • “Security” (can be paired with “Alert” to form “Security” + “Alert”)
  • “Alert”
  • "Fire alarm” (newly discovered)

Informational Phrases

  • “A fire emergency has been reported in the building.” (the most famous line)
  • “Has been reported.”
  • “While this is being investigated…”
  • “While this is being verified…”

Articles

  • “A”
  • “An”
  • “In”
  • “The”

Common Nouns

  • “Building”
  • “Nearest exit”

Directive Phrases

  • “Please” (as a modifier)
  • “Leave the building by the…”
  • “Do not use the elevators.”
  • “Stand by for further instructions.”

Not necessarily given the DMC-1’s full list of both words & tones can be found on one of Siemens’ websites if you look for it, but yeah. Excellent find!

No idea where you found some of those as I’ve been able to find little besides the “standard” ones (“May I have your attention please”, “A fire emergency has been reported in the building”, etc.).

Where is it exactly? I’d really like to know!

Various YouTube videos, I might link them later. (I just finished enhancing the “fire alarm” phrase by the way)

Also, the University of Pittsburgh has recorded these voice clips they to teach their students what to do when their MXL-V goes off and plays a specific message.

Right here (there is an apparently older rendition of this list that doesn’t have as many words & that was hosted on Fire Alarm Resources, but as I just discovered it’s no longer there for some reason):
DML Factory Recorded Phrase Library, Installation Instructions • Viewer • Smart Information Delivery

Well that’s where I’ve found a lot of them too but even I have not found some of the ones you have. Alright though.

Oh wow: had no idea about those! Thanks for sharing them!

There is also:

“Orderly”
“Manner”
“Room”

Yes, those too. Except I only included the ones I already enhanced.
