Post video files

I wanted to post video files (MP4) in posts and PMs, but it only accepts image files. Is there any way that can be changed so people without social media or a youtube channels can post their fire alarm videos?

You could upload it to something like Google Drive and set the permission to “Public”, if you don’t think the video will get lots of views or be widely shared. (Google Drive has video playback functionality but its rules do not allow large-scale public streaming.)

I’ll see what we’re able to support. There’s some limits on Discourse’s end, but also there’s some cost associated with hosting videos vs. pictures I’ll need to investigate a bit.

Until I figure that out, I do suggest using Google Drive or YouTube to host the video. Both have the ability to have “Anyone with the link” meaning it won’t necessarily be public unless anyone shares that link publicly.

So I really want a ability to post .MP4 files or videos in general.
Is this possible, or not
(YouTube is not a option for me)

This has already been asked. It’s not in Zach’s control to change it. It’s the way that discourse has made it. It would have to be something that discourse would have to change.

Oh I see. Thank you!

Looks like maybe we support this function now, but not sure how well it works.. Also probably could get costly so.. may need to limit file size, but it does exist now.
