This one was made in 1986. There is a video of one on YouTube that was made in 1981 I believe. That one did have the green label and pigtails
Here’s an A*T 7535 smoke alarm from 1977. It probably uses the black Star buzzer that the square GE’s use.

Extremely rare Amway I just picked up. The instant I saw its listing I gasped and couldn’t hit the Buy It Now button fast enough! I first saw this one on Home Safeguard Industries website in a video for their Smoke Detector Tester spray many years ago. I at first thought it was some kind of manipulated image of their (Amway’s) more common style, but I saw one on eBay a couple of years ago and didn’t get that one, but this one came up and… well you know the rest. In the video it made a 4/6 sound, it might have been dubbed in, but since I’ve never seen this design in persion I’m not sure of what it sounds like.
http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mfbCkl-rvsj7yQfv-_tR4Qg.jpg Here’s the more common variety, which uses SmokeGard’s 809A platform, and makes a 3KHz nominal 5/6 pattern, like the 809A/810A did.
Expensive but…

I think the Oster smoke detector a the Dicon detector my parents had used the exact same horns and sensors. But other than the shapes the Oster being square and the Dicon being round they look nearly identical as the test button and light is the same on both units. Now if only I could locate a Dicon unit that would be sweet. They are nearly impossible to find nowadays.

Unboxing and Testing of my Amway Amgard smoke alarm I just got today, with a surprise (those on the Fire Alarm Enthusiast FB group already know the surprise)
Just saw the video, nice!
Also here’s a Montgomery Ward smoke detector, which was based on the Canadian Mastercraft detectors, and those were based on the SA76RC
http://m.ebay.com/itm/281803823456
Does the Montgomery Ward alarm listed above have the squealer horn? I believe this is the one my neighbour had. The ad says it’s from the 1970’s.
I don’t know, these were based off of the SA76RS and later the SA76RC. There’s no way to tell other than looking inside the detector
Oh okay, this looked like the one my neighbour had and hers had the squealer horn. Even though I never liked the way they sounded I still think smoke detectors with squealer horns were way more interesting and also did a better job at getting ones attention.
I think it’s the version based on the 76RS, the 76RC version has vents on the side like the BRK 79R. Also the art depicting the installation looks more like a 76RS configuration.
Thank you Fire Alarm Fan. This must be the one my neighbour had. You definitely know your smoke detectors/fire alarms. So the ones with the vents on the sides had piezos then? Have you owned or do you own one of these alarms based on the 76RS platform
Another question about the ones based on the 76RC platform did the cover have to be removed to access the battery or did is just pull down?
Now that you mentioned that, I remember that the RC rebrand had a cover identical to the Mastercraft model. I bet the covers are interchangeable. This makes me wonder, were there any Mastercraft SA76RS rebrands?
Also, the SA76RS-based, like all other earlier BRK-based alarms, required the cover to be removed to access the battery.
Mastercraft are the Canadian rebrands of the Montgomery ward brand right? That (Mastercraft) is the brand that belongs to Canadian Tire. Sorry if this sounds like a weird question
Was searching Fire Alarm videos on YT when I happened on a video of someone’s AS being tested, and right next to it is a very rare alarm. I had to search his older vids to find a video of the alarm, but here it is:
Thanks for the video Fire Alarm Fan. Those GE home sentrys were rare as you said most people on YT have the battery ones. I also saw this video on YT all on rare home alarm systems and I have the first one he describes. The wind up on with the heat sensitive strip. I think those ones were neat and they are very loud when you them up and set them off. I guess they were used in the days before smoke detectors came around. He even said some older homes still have them. I got mine at a local antique shop. The guy who owns the shop is keeping his eye out for any vintage or rare smoke detectors for me as well if he gets them in his shop. I will eventually make a video of my alarm. I have it displayed and hanging on the wall in my kitchen.
Here are some pics of my Gardsman wind up fire alarm in my kitchen. Im hoping these pics will be able to post but the alarm was the first alarm that was featured in the YT video I posted earlier today. The alarm is from the 1940’s or 1950’s but these were used before the days of household smoke alarms. They have a red flag the pops out when they need wound up and they also have a bimetallic strip on the front on the alarm that is heat sensitive. That is also what sets the alarm off. These are actually pretty neat and yes they make a very loud bell noise when they go off. Im unable to set it off tonight as my landlord is home but Im hoping to post a video soon. I have also had troubles getting videos from my cell phone to my computer to please bear with me but again I will do my best. 8)
Hey everybody, I made a video of my Gardsman fire alarm today but I am not able to post the attachment. I tried several times. I was able to post the pictures the other day without any problems. I don’t know what I am doing wrong but I am wondering if I emailed someone here if they could post the video for me? Let me know thanks.
Nice! That GE Home Sentry is nice one! I’m so jealous! Also that bell is cool.
Here are some detectors on ebay right now:
