What is the difference between the FXW-1/1A and the FX1020? NLind’s FXW-1 uses a different sensor than the FX1020, and the test button mechanism is different. This one looks like it has the same sensor as the FX1020 though. Other than that, was there any real difference between them?
Yep, Willbill808 has a FXW-1A. you can see his video on youtube. The SS-200 was a relist, originally the price was higher but the seller decided to cut the price. It’s still a little too expensive though
Also, I bought one of the SA120’s, and it came today! Here’s the unboxing and testing:
FYI the 79DCRI smoke detector:
This detector is used for Operating a Solenoid that will drop a louver in a ventilation system.
When the 9 volt powered Smoke Detector goes off it sends 2-3 amps of power to a solenoid that heats up enough to melt solder. There is a soldered clip on the solenoid that is released when the solder heats up when the clip drops the louver falls shut by gravity.
When this unit goes off you have to solder the clip back on the solenoid to operate the louver once again.
The louver acts as a ground to complete the circuit. thats how it works and that is why there are extra wires on the smoke detector.
Kind of cool a 9 volt battery can power this up but it works well.

I am hoping you could help me out as it appears you have great knowledge in Smoke Detectors.
I need 60 BRK 79D CRI units . I need battery operated units.
These 79D CRI 9 volt units have a pigtail that operates some sort of solenoid that heats up when alarm goes off and Solder is melted and a clip separates from the solenoid and a louver drops by gravity.
I understand how it works but my problem is I cant find a replacement for this model, The replacement is 120 volt operated model and I still need a 9 volt model. Do you have a suggestion for me ?

I don’t know about the 79DCRI, I know it has the same cover and base as the SmokeSignal SS-700
Also that Sears on ebay that Simplex4Life posted the link to was actually a Probe 101 rebrand, not a Gateway rebrand. You can tell that it has the same mounting bracket and the same basic shape as the Probe. I wonder if it’s labeled Southwest Laboratories too.
Yeah I noticed that the SS-200 was yet again relisted, seems like they lower the price each time it’s relisted.
Also, I got this Gillette Capt. Kelly 929 12.6 volt detector for my birthday yesterday! I was able to test it with a regular 9 volt battery.
I was about to post the link to that FX1014, I noticed some interesting features on it. First, it has red labeling which is weird since most had green labeling. Also it has a wiring plug which most others had dual pigtail wires coming out of them, and it doesn’t have interconnect. This one must be a later one
