That I don’t know. Mine is actually and 8315C Im guessing C meaning contractor model. It was still originally sealed in a brown contractor style box with the Amway logo on it. Here is the back of the unit. If you look carefully it looks like there is another label below this one. Im not attempting to take it off and there is a date stamp of 1977 on the right side so we know the year this alarm was made. And also 5 9 77 on the one side of the

Oh, okay. I guess for now we won’t know then (unless another collector steps forward with an answer).
It could mean that or “Canada” considering the label on yours is bilingual (assuming the non-C model’s label is just in English since Amway was an American manufacturer).
I do! I actually have at least two 80s-era Simplex smoke detectors that also have labels pasted on top of their original ones for some reason (they were loose enough that I could remove them without damaging them). Wonder why companies do this.
Oh okay I guess the “C” means Canada and being bilingual that is likely it although in Quebec where French is the main language it is not required for labels to be both in French and English although things could have changed but for years that was the way it was/ (Im next door in Ontario) And with the date I think it could be the latter (September 5th, 1977). I was 4 at that time. Also when I first got this detector I thought the centre piece in the middle was a test button which apparently it later became on another model (I forgot the exact one). Thinking I had received a DUD. When I got test spray it went off. Very high pitched with not the most healthiest sounding horn. My Teledyne Waterpik unit from 1976 has the same pitch but somewhat healthier sounding.
Couple things: #1: Not only is the post you replied to a full 10 years old, but it doesn’t even make mention of the 105. #2: Considering how rare Probe-brand smoke detectors are in general I guess I for one would be willing to take it off your hands (even if it is supposedly nonfunctional as you say it is).
Yeah all of those are pretty rare I’d say (& thus worth it): heck I’ve never seen the 2nd unit, the German-packaged 4907, or that particular Ei Electronics unit! (which is the last one)
