Hi there, I’m a hobbyist and im looking to reset a simplex 4010 i bought. It has a DACT card installed. I have a second 4010 that also had a DACT card installed and I was able to default it, but not this one. I have the level 4 access code. Thanks so much!
Last time I worked on a 4010 with serial dact, I had to align the dact configuration to the 4010 otherwise I would get an error. Unfortunately I had some issues changing the config in the dact card and had to leave it as is.
Are you planning on using these dact cards? I would suggest getting a simplex download cable as you can do a lot of great things with it like backup/restore configurations and control the panel by terminal.
If you are lucky and they are both running the same system firmware then you could just restore the one that was defaulted on the other one. You don’t need a license for that.

I will check the revision of the working one! I thought I wouldn’t be able to uplpad or download anything from the panel without the software and proprietary (tightly controlled) serial cable. Is there something I don’t know or might be misinformed on? Thanks for the reply!
Oh, no, im not planning on using the DACT cards at all. Where can I get a download cable?

You might be able to find a better deal elsewhere but it’s the right cable.
Also I suggest finding a computer with true serial adapter, ideally an old computer that has serial on motherboard.
For the software it can be pretty much any programmer you can find 4010 or 4100u days and newer, the serial transfer utility does not require a license and is bundled with pretty much all of those.
This one should work, just tried it and seems legitimate.

and Chapter 4 page 8 gives you instructions for uploading(from panel) and then downloading (to panel)
Also you can try to open with notepad the CFIG that you uploaded from the panel, you might be able to see the passwords inside.
Ok, I downloaded the software, and i’ll order the cable. Question though, what kind of serial cable goes between the simplex cable and the PC? Is it just a straight through serial cable? Null modem cable?
I believe it is just regular serial RS232 but not all pins are used, you need that specific one as the end is an uncommon shape.

Thanks so much. Glad I got it before the software police came around. What operating system does it run on? It wont run on windows 95 or NT, but runs fine on Windows 10. Odd.
Well I only tested it from windows xp to windows 10, but I usually stick with windows 7 for best compatibility.
I havent gotten the cable yet. Is the sequence of buttons im pressing to default the panel maybe incorrect? Can someone PM me please?
Usually for 4010 panels the default is 1000, 2000, 3000, REMOVED BY MODERATOR BECAUSE TECHNICALLY WERE SUPPOSED TO EVEN THOUGH THIS CODE IS WIDELY KNOWN. Only way to get the custom one is either to analyze config after extraction or opening it after extraction
